waltmor who, at my request, linked the latest
The Simpsons episode recap to the TV.com homepage. I plan to continue posting recaps for new episodes this season, and hopefully this exposure for
The Simpsons guide on the home page will continue. I don't want to say the guide was in terrible shape, but it was in need of some TLC since I took over in May. The guide still is a work in progress, but thanks in large part to the efforts of
CFlovesLF, who has been on deep clean mode for the guide, and
Angelwomyn, who is seemingly daily sprinkling excellent tidbits and morsels all over the guide, it is definitely looking better.
FlyingHellfish's Guide to Driving Etiquette Whenever one is stopped at a red traffic light and intending to turn left, one should stay behind the crosswalk and should
not slowly ease out into the intersection so that another driver who might happen to be turning right cannot see the traffic coming from the left. If the driver turning right should happen to ease out a little further into the intersection to see beyond the hood of the vehicle that is turning left, the driver of the vehicle turning left should
not continue to ease out past the driver who is turning right further blocking their fellow driver's view. One should remember that you cannot turn left into two-way traffic on a red light. Therefore logical reasoning suggests that there is no gained advantage in blocking the crosswalk and the view of a fellow driver turning right who might have the opportunity to do so.
NFL Stuff If anyone would like to join in the fun, you are more than welcome. Should you decide to make any picks for the week, simply PM them to me, clearly identifying the game(s) and who you think will win each one. You do not have to pick every game for that particular week, nor do you have to pick games every week. Every Wednesday following a weekend of NFL games I will post my own results as well as everyone else's. I'll also be keeping a running record of my season totals as well as anyone else that should happen to pick games for more than one week. There are no prizes, this is simply for pride and maybe a little bragging rights. If you want to make picks and want to see your name posted here, all you have to do is PM me your winning NFL picks. The only rule is that any games you pick must be PM'd to me before they kickoff. Pretty simple. Week 5 Picks (Winners in Bold) Dolphins @

Patriots Seahawks @
Steelers Lions @
Redskins Buccaneers @
Colts Chargers @ Broncos
Ravens @ 49ers Bears @
Packers Cowboys @ Bills
Mortal Lock of the Week (1-0) To keep this pick a little more of a challenge, I won't pick the same team twice in the same season. This rules out picking the Cowboys over the Bills on Monday night. I will instead opt for the
Titans over the Falcons at home. Tennessee is coming off of a bye week, the Falcons average almost 90 yards a game on the ground and the Titans only give up average of 63.3 rushing yards per game. This likely means that for the Falcons to have a shot to win this one Joey Harrington will have to play exceptional. I'm betting he won't.
Upset of the Week (0-1) The Chiefs are 2 point underdogs at home against the Jaguars. This will be a low scoring game; both teams are in the top 10 in defense, but rank in the bottom 10 in offense. I like the
Chiefs to pull out a win at home.
Rest of the Games There are a lot more interesting games this week compared to last. The Lions are 0-20 on the road against Washington. But that's not why I picked the
Redskins. I'm just afraid I'll get burned if I pick the Lions. Seattle visits Pittsburgh in a Super Bowl XL rematch. This could be the best match up of the week, I think it will be close, but the
Steelers will bounce back after a loss to Arizona last week. The Patriots are 16 point favorites against the Browns this weekend. I could have picked this one to be my Mortal Lock of the Week, but I wanted to save the Patriots for a later date. I think Vegas is setting up to win big on this game on Sunday. The Patriots have an average margin of victory of
25 points this year and conventional wisdom would suggest that they can't possibly put up those kind of numbers for a 5th week in a row, on the road against a team that puts up nearly 4 touchdowns each week itself, and against head coach Romeo Crennel whose previous job was defensive coordinator for New England. Vegas is counting on everyone to think logically and take the Browns and the points, but I think the
Pats are going to roll big yet again. Technically the Giants are the home team in the Meadowlands against the Jets, who also play there. I like the
Giants to win behind another superb performance by Osi Umenyiora and the rest of the defensive line against a Jets team that has already allowed 11 sacks this year (25th in the league). The Colts are 10 point favorites at home against the Buccaneers. I don't bet on my own team, but if I would be wary about picking the
Colts to cover. The Buccaneers average a little over 130 yards a game on the ground and the Colts aren't exactly known for stopping the run. (Unless they're in the post season ;)). Brett Favre and the Packers have tormented the Bears for years at Lambeau Field and I don't expect that trend to change on Sunday night. Mark down a win for the
Packers. Lastly, Dallas and Buffalo is an interesting match up, in that they are Super Bowl opponents from the early 90's. None of the players or coaches are the same anymore, but I expect the same outcome:
Cowboys in a blow out.
FlyingHellfish's Top Ten in the NFL 1 Patriots (4-0) I don't think this really needs an explanation.
2 Colts (4-0) The offense is still one of the best in the league and the defense is nearly in the top third of the league. 303.5 yards per game allowed (11th) and 18.5 points per game allowed (13th).
3 Cowboys (4-0) Could be #2, but I can't bring myself to do it.
4 Packers (4-0) They could be 5-0 with a two game lead in the NFC North after this week. Who'da thunk it?
5 Steelers (3-1) Despite one loss they've still outscored opponents 111-47.
6 Seahawks (3-1) Quietly winning in the NFC.
7 Buccaneers (3-1) Is Tampa Bay finally getting over their Super Bowl hangover?
8 Lions (3-1) Statistically the best passing team in the league at 312.5 yards per game. The next best team? The Packers at 288.8 yards per game. On the flip side, the Lions are next to last in the league in rushing (74.5 yards per game). Who is the worst? You guessed it--The Packers (54.3 yards per game).
9 Titans (2-1) Turning out to be solid team that is starting to discover itself and should play well after their bye last week.
10 Ravens (2-2) Laid an egg in Cleveland, but this is still a good team. That's it for now. Take it easy fellow TV.commers.
