Hoping to play this with friends on PC. I don't really game much anymore, but I'd do it with friends.

I'm currently thinking of getting a dedicated gaming PC to play Destiny 2 with friends. I'll also get to play it at 1080p60 if I put in a bit more money, which is what you can't get on consoles.

If it wasn't for friends, the allure of the ease of consoles is huge for me. And if I was to get a beast console, it would be the Xbox One X for sure. Form factor, ecosystem, everything - it's just brilliant for someone like me who just wants to plug in and play.

Definitely keeping my eyes on this.

I haven't decided yet though if they're ripping Giger off or doing him justice.. Hope it'll be good, though!

There's not enough penis in the art style so it's definitely not just ripping off Giger.

"This list sucks because I disagree with it," said everyone in this thread, ever.

@reavis86: Call it what you want... Im not hating on the efforts of the group of people who put it together. But the game is inaccessible by any legit means.

I would love if this project became legitimized. But the developers did not go through the proper channels. Thousands of metroid clones out there where the developers put a great game together but had to use original concepts, and therefore did not have the recognition of a major IP.

Dude live a little.

I'm playing AM2R right now.

I think the second one is the weakest in the trilogy, gameplay/gunplay wise.

It also proves (much like Chinatown did) that noire doesn't have to take place entirely at night in order to capture the feeling of the genre. Plus the nuance in it's third person shooter mechanics are second to none. If you suck at it, you've no one but yourself and your lack of patience at uncovering and utilizing the inherent nuance to blame.

To be honest, I haven't come across one valid argument from Max 3's naysayers to be honest so **** those idiots.

There's a pretty strong argument to your statement OP.

To be fair...Chinatown was set in a classic noir location (California), in a classic noir era (1930s), starring the director of a film noir classic (The Maltese Falcon - John Huston), and featured a story drenched in classic noir tropes (a battered private detective, a femme fatale, a missing woman, corrupt officials, a murder mystery, a sense of displacement in a familiar city, a tragic ending, etc.). It may have been set in the daylight, but there is no mistaking it for anything other than noir.

Meanwhile, I can't remember Max Payne 3 featuring any of the staples of the noir genre. It instead aimed for the genre staples of a favella action movie like Tropa de Elite (or the tv series Narcos, by the same director). Even Rockstar suggested that film as the inspiration behind the game. Tonally, it could have been a completely different franchise, but Max's name needed to be put on the box to sell copies.

I agree about the great shooting mechanics. It's just a shame that the gunplay was awkwardly interrupted by cutscenes every two minutes. I also did not think that low-wall cover-shooting blended well with Max Payne's traditionally fluid and highly mobile gameplay.

Max Payne 3 is noir dude. People wanted the My-First-Noir style of the first two Max Payne games, but instead they got Rockstar's film student experimental style noir.

I honestly dug it, obtrusive presentation aside. Much better than their Michael Mann-esque stories in the last two GTA games.

Game stories should mostly stick to providing a context that gives the action/gameplay meaning. When games try to portray an epic narrative it often falls flat on its face. I think 'intellectually dishonest' was a good way to put it in the OP. Another prime example of that is Niko Bellic in GTA IV. On a way to a mission he'll blurt out all tons of emo crap about his life during the war and just wanting a better life, and upon arrival he'll kill literally dozens of people. And we're supposed to connect with him on an emotional level? Please. I think Trevor in GTA V is a sign they realised that, as he's the biggest maniac in the series since Tommy Vercetti, and it matches the gameplay of the series much better.

I'm not defending GTAIV, it's been such a long time since I played it, and I have no desire to play it again.

But for the love of me every time I see this it makes me want to die inside.

The whole point of Niko's character was to make him say that he wants to leave a life of crime from the old country to the new country, only to make you go on a murder spree for the next 30 or so hours. It was basic, bludgeoned-over-your-head irony. Whether you think the execution was terrible or not, any mature gamer should have got the memo within the first few missions: this was the Houser brothers trying to be clever on their first "serious" GTA.

Incidentally, this came out in the same year The Dark Knight was released. I remember this board circle jerking over that movie. It was a film where the characters spoon-fed you the plot and themes without needing you to think. Case in point, the whole Lamborghini joke:

Alfred: "Will you be wanting the Batpod, sir?"

Bruce Wayne: "In the middle of the day Alfred? Not very subtle."

Visual gag: Bruce drives a Lambo out of his garage

Unnecessary piece of dialogue in case no one got the joke: Alfred: "The Lamborghini then. Much more subtle."

Fanbois 2008: zomg hahahahaa so funny chris nolan so smart bestmovie ever!!!11

BF1 looks better than Doom. I think Witcher 3 does too when you factor in scale. Doom is a great looking game, but there are better looking ones.

And why would you?

Do you judge a girl based solely on her face?

Sometimes a peachy arse balances out a 7/10 face.

I've been watching some videos of Sonic Mania. Okay.... there's something about the game which looks really, really good. Presentation looks mint, music is great, and level design looks spot on and the gameplay.... it doesn't look sucky for a Sonic game.

How many decades does Sonic have to totally, utterly suck for before it sinks in?

Wasn't Sonic 4 supposed to be the last "savior" of the series? It was... ok.

Sonic is in a unique position in video games.

The games were good, maybe great, and never GOAT, but it has amassed an insanely loyal fan base that throw money at anything Sonic.
