@gotrekfabian: I agree. I liked Alexios and his accent and comments were even spot-on funny sometimes. The way he talked was clearly made on purpose and to me it worked. In my opinion, at least.
@gotrekfabian: Maybe you are right, but I think it would take a lot to bring the Animus to complete awesomeness. Hope they manage to revolutionise the whole franchise though. For me, if each AC was independent with its story (a la FF or DQ), that would be amazing :)
But i do admit Desmond was a big part of the original story. That said, i hated playing as Desmond anyways, but that point still stands: he truly was a big part of the story, whether we loved him or hated him.
In my opinion, AC has to drop the stupid Animus. That idea has never ever been good or well presented. It is the most idiotic gameplay concept i have ever seen, and this is coming from a person whose favorite MGS is Sons of Liberty (not saying it is the best, im just saying it is my favorite...it got me into gaming). Point is, I like weird stuff, but the Animus is not weird, it is just stupid and drags the entirety of the series down.
I remember when the first AC was announced and the whole Animus concept was actually kept secret...Raiden was also kept secret, but MGS2 turned out to be a great game nevertheless. The first AC kept it secret for the purpose of surprise...the worst surprise ever. It is the sole reason why i dont like the franchise as a whole, though i loved Black Flag. Let me rephrase that: I ADORED Black Flag. That game was holy-shit-f@ck-me-twice-this-is-amazing fantastic. And the best part of it was how they downplayed the Animus to a "gaming company" concept; it wasnt entirely absent, but it was highly diminished to a point it didnt actually bother me that much.
I know, i know, the Animus opened the floodgates to yearly releases. So? That doesnt justify its stupidity. There are other concepts and ideas that could have made yearly releases a much more digestible experience.
Why the Animus? I just cant fathom the idea of Ubisoft's management saying year after year "oh yes, the Animus is amazing and we have to keep with it". WTF
Without the Animus, this franchise could be truly wonderful, filling the void of yearly third-person action adventure with great attitude and passion. And heck, it doesnt even have to be a yearly game, a la Odyssey. Make one AC every 4 years if you must, but make a great game, we wont care much about waiting. Just my opinion though. Feel free to give feedback.
