It’s just that to me Sony already had a successful run with Spidey. I mean, in a way, they were the ones who started the efective superhero moviemaking era with the original trilogy (especially 1 & 2). Before that it was basically George Clooney wearing spandex-velcro for Batman and we all know how harsh the Schumacher touch was.

Maybe it is troublesome because of the Indiana Jones similarities.
