You honestly think that RESIDENT EVIL and METROID beat halo?!? are you joking me? Sorry, comparing metroid to halo is imho retarded. Half-life is the only game on there that even comes close to the quality of the halo series. Namely because the online play is FREAKIN awesome
Metroid and MGS are nowhere close to being with Halo.
The reason Halo became such an immense hit is for four reasons.
1) Halo designed a different system of Health. instead of running around looking for health packs you can stand behind a corner, count to 5 and be ready to whoop some ass.
2) Halo had an interesting plot. I don't care what you say, think back when it first came out, the only other plots for FPS's were RE's basic KIll zombie's, Metroids' Turn into a ball and shoot your beam, and MGS which had the same plot for every game. The idea for Halo got people interested and this also helped.
3) The Multiplay system was and still is amazing. I still like to sit down and play a few games on Blood Gulch or Hang em High. without an "Uber weapon" in the mix it makes for fun and fair gameplay.
4) The Flood. These li'l buggers come in when you least expect it and scare the F*** outta you till the end. It mixed an FPS with a Horror survival shooter for an amzing combo.
With such a huge fanbase from the first one, the 2nd sold well and no doubt the 3rd will sell even better.

Halo just copied Metriod's suit thing. It really copied Ringworld or something like that... Still, MGS copied one of Tom Clancy's novel. Where is originality in games anymore? :P I have a new found disgust for Halo. I'm a big Aliens vs Predator fan and some Halo fans were talking about how it tributes to them. To hell with that.
