@7evenpoint: They'll probably have a special mark to differentiate them. When some of them were rereleased with Base Set 2, all of them had a 2 printed on them, to signify its one from that set. What I want to know is whether they'll be reworked to be tournament-legal.
I'm waiting. Not because I don't want the console in the future, but because launch libraries haven't been the greatest. And even if it is backwards compatible, I only have about 5 or so WiiU games. I have more Wii games than WiiU games. So I need to see what we have for games, since that is what's most important (or should be).
And as for 20 Million, it just makes sure that there's an NX on the shelves when you want to get one.
The problem is, you need to have the adaptor to trade it in (which you need for your new system), and you want to transfer your info to the new system as well
Nintendo should not leave the console market. The lower price of their consoles is helpful in having Sony and Microsoft have lower prices as well. Take out a competitor, and they're free to offer their machines at a much higher price, and Sony has a monopoly in handheld gaming.
Also, they know what their console can and can not do, and their games are great because of it, while free of things like slowdown and game breaking bugs. How many 1st and 2nd party games in recent memory needed a patch to fix a bug? I can think of only one (or two), Pokemon X and Y.
Also, their brand of quirkiness and graphics just don't fit in anywhere else. Sure, the games will still be great, but consumers that aren't used to Nintendo may put on pressure to take their games in a direction they were never meant to go. And software sales may suffer as a result of them not doing that. I don't want to see Mario taken in a gritty and realistic direction, that's not who Mario is.
They experiment at times with their console. Sometimes it works (Wii and motion control), sometimes not so much (Virtual Boy, WiiU gamepad). But the fact is that they experiment, rather than making things the same as everyone else. That's what sets them apart and makes them different.
I say don't lose the quirkiness and experimentation that helps you be great. But you need a better online system, stop alienating 3rd party developers, get a marketing team that understands how to market something and knows how to attract consumers, and make a control system and a console that 3rd party and indie developers can work with.
Oh, and remove region locking. It was never needed, and shouldn't be on any console ever.
Everyone, get the facts. It was the NFL that offered an open bidding war to obtain exclusive rights. 2K5 selling at $19.95 scared them, since they get a percentage cut of the profits, and the other companies may have to lower their prices to compete. So, to keep prices-and profit-high, they had the companies bid for the rights, and EA happened to win
Lets say they make the adapter. Not everyone has a library of old games, so they would be forced to buy used games, and Nintendo would make zero on the sale of those games. Plus, the VC would make nothing as well.
