I think you need something like Alcohol 120 where it allows you to mount the contents of CDs to a virtual drive, so avoiding the installation process.

Funnily enough I dont remember those days and ive had it for about 7 years... maybe just me?

You will either need to buy a wired controller or use the plug and play cable in order for a connection to be established - after all PC's dont come built in with infra red sensors.
