Which is better & was ahead of its time?
LOL i cannot take this serious.
A dreamcast game where he is running around asking "did you see chinese peeople" and look at some cat/dog and say "oh now its also a orphan" but i know many consider this to be a great game but compared to The Last of us its like comparing the sun to the moon and saying oh both is hot.
The question is essentially "which game was more ahead of its time?" So we can definitely compare them because we're not comparing the games with today's standards.
I think Shenmue was more ahead of its time. It had a large world with so much stuff to do, a lot of other games (even today) didn't have as much as Shenmue did. You can interact with just about anything in the environment and it doesn't need to be relevant to the main plot. The world isn't only big because of its size, but because of how there's so much to do. And the graphics were really good for the Dreamcast.
Shenmue did a lot to break the mold. The Last of Us doesn't really do much to break the mold, it just looks pretty. The graphics in the Last of Us are REALLY good for the PS3, I didn't think it needed a remastered edition on the PS4. It practically looked like a PS4 game already.
