I like this game, but sometimes you have to trade the wishes of the people against the finance department.

Just one quick question, I assume that you are planning on reusing your current edition of windows. If so would it also be possible to reuse your current hard drive and put the money saved towards a phenom II x4?

If you are looking to shave a few dollars off the price I would chose the CM 690 instead of the Antec Nine Hundred. The price difference would bring you half way towards an Phenom II X4 955 or get you a X4 940.

Negative. I am currently using an ASUS laptop. I dont have a harddrive to use so to speak. What I do have, is a student discount on windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I am purchasing it for 20$ and using it for my new rig. Would a phenom II net me a huge performance boost?

So here is what im considering for my next budget gaming pc. I cant go over 630$ and I would honestly like to keep it under 600$. As it is now i think its acceptable but im curious as to what you fine ladies and gents think. Is this setup optimum? or can i do better for the price? Also what would this computer be capable of running as far as games go? I play fallout 3, mass effect, crysis, tf2, and other pc games. Id like to know that this rig would last me until december with fairly impressive performance on almost everything i plan to play. If this were you and you were tweaking it for yourself, what would you do? Thanks in advance. :)

Here is the rig

Also keep in mind that i would like an aesthetically pleasing case as well as one that is functional for any upgrades i plan to do in the future.

@ ~$550, I'd get this:
.
smc91352
This looks good to me, and I will be able to upgrade due to the AM3 socket correct? Also, what would this rig be capable of running? All of the games currently out on decent setting? Any thoughts on this rig?

I did some peeking and I found a case I think id rather have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 (id have to splurge a bit but a case is something id be willing to do that with because im a sucker for aesthetics and parenthesis.)

Anyone build me something better for the same price (dont mind if it includes AMD parts, also it can be slightly more expensive, like 550$). I want a rig that is upgradeable and lacking the glass cieling that the one he is offering certainly has. I can get windows 7 64 bit for dirt cheap with my student email. This would be much appreciated. And also everyone here has already been a big help :)
to put it into perspective...smc91352
I half-assed this:
.
I'm sure that if combos were found, an X4 could be obtained.

Im thinking I would be ok with AMD chip and card but I want a mobo thats going to last me for a while without requiring and upgrade for processor and card upgrades. Will this one work for that?

That site is awesome. And Im not necessarily opposed to using AMD in the computer that I build. What is a good GPU/mobo/processor combo (budget is 650$for the entire computer)

So if I dont buy my cousins rig, ill be building my own. Im scared to do AMD processor and GPU. I have the Radeon HD 3650 in my current laptop and this thing hemhorhagges performance. Im looking to spend no more than 650$ on the tower, and I want to be able to run crysis, fallout, dragon age, mass effect 2 and hopefully games that come out in the next year or two without upgrading or with minimal upgrades at blazing speeds. So basically if anyone is kind enough i need help with a good build, and also consolation if im to use AMD. Also Im not trying to offend anyone for liking AMD, I have no real legitimate reason to dislike them other than the current card I have. So I am well aware that my fear is not strongly supported :)
