I'm curious, where do you live, and who your ISP is?. Also what type of routers have you used. I've heard of people getting simpler cheaper routers and having less problems. Also, I'm assuming your speaking of Brawl in regards to tellin the person nearby to search with you, and finding him instantly?

Try checking the DHCP address range. My router gives out 50 addresses. Starting with 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.150. Try assigning the Wii a static IP that is higher than 10. You first need to check the range though. Also it may be possible that your modem is firewalled. You would have to access the modem settings to find out. You can also try using the public ip address for the LAN device, instead of a private ip address, which would also be in modem settings. When I did this my PS3 went from NAT Type 3 to NAT Type 2 which is good.

I heard Netgear routers have some built in firewall or something that may cause interference.

[QUOTE="GoDsSoN770"]

I attempted to play 10 random Wifi Basic Brawls today between 4 and 5 eastern time, and recorded the results.

BD = Button Delay/Lag, or the time it takes for character to react to your button press.

Att. = Attempt

Opp. = Opponent or Opponents

Min. = Minutes

First att. Stage = Temple. Found 1 opp. within a min, 1 more after another min. Not much BD, a little slow down after first item drop, and during Final Smash. Everything else smooth.

2nd att. Disconnected from network during transmission error after about 2 1/2 mins.

3rd. att. Stage = Final Destination Found 2 opponents after 2mins, 3rd opponent found after 45 more secs. Not much BD, and no slow down.

4th att. Stage = Final Destination. Found 3 opponents at 20 secs. Not much BL. 1 or 2 slow downs.

5th att. Stage = 75m. Found 1 opp. after 35 secs. 1 more after 20 more secs. Another after 20 more secs. 3rd player disconnects. 3rd player found again after 10-20 more secs, only to disconnect again. 4th found again after 20 more secs.Game starts. Not much BD, no slow downs.

6th att. Stage = Shadow Moses(MGS). 1 opp. found after 30 secs. 15 secs later 2 more opp. found. Very smooth, no slowdown, hardly any BD.

7th att. Stage = Distant Planet. 3 opponents found after 50 secs. very smooth, not much BD.

8th att. Stage = Bridge of Eldin. 3 opponents after 50 secs. No slow down, but a bit of BD.

9th att. Stage = Castle Seige. 1 opponent found after 1 1/2 mins. 1 more after 30 more secs, and another within 30 more secs. Not too much BD, no slow downs.

10th and Final att. Stage = Battlefield. 3 opponents found after 25 secs. Smooth gameplay, not much BD.

Seems to work pretty good for me. I have the cheapest DSL plan available (not super fast) from AT&T, with my Wii connected wirelessly via my Linksys router.

You people who can't find any opponents, or can't get a game started need to configure your connections. The game works fine. Of course there will be days when the servers are getting a lot of traffic and you may get more disconnections, but that happens across all Nintendo Wifi Games.

BTW, I'm located in Houston,Texas, in the USA.

you know whats the sad and pathetic part? that the other fighting wiifi games on the wii DONT NEED PLAYERS TO MESS WITH THEIR CONNECTIONS TO FIND OPONENTS NOR FCS TO ADD OPONENTS. Brawl is terrible and im not fiddling with my network just for that single game to work online.

Aww come on, Brawl is a good game. The online is just abysmal.

Also I tried everything including trying 3 different routers.

I believe this is how it works:

If the game doesn't find someone close to you with less than 50ms(could be more) latency it finds no one. Either that or Brawl uses some nice magic.

I don't think that is the case as far as latency goes. I believe its completely random just like every other NWC game. If there isn't anything blocking connections, you shouldn't go longer than 3 or 4 mins without finding someone, if there are available players. After 3 or 4 mins you should have either found someone, or gotten a connection error message. Otherwise you may need to open some ports.

Again Mario Kart, is not only a very different type of game, but has a different network configuration, therefore the majority of people don't have to really bother any settings to play online. Thats the way the game was designed. Brawl is a different story, and its not the only game I've heard people complaining about. I played NBA 2K on PS2 and PS3 for years, and people complained daily about either not being able to connect to anyone in the lobby system, or not being able to host a game (home games/custom settings). NBA 2K like Brawl requires both players to see the same things on the screen at the same time, and the amount of button lag was dependent on network conditions at the time, as well as the connection of both players. There were times where me and an online friend had a good connection to each other with a 5 bar (max) ping rating, but network conditions caused the game to have a bunch of slowdown, and even occasional network errors where we'd be kicked from the game. So its not just Brawl. Some games just have different network setups, and with all the different internet service providers, routers, usb wifi dongles ect., connections can differ greatly. I personally have never had much of a problem connecting in Brawl while network conditions were normal, and even back in the PS2 days of NBA 2K online play, many people complained, but I never had a problem hosting or connecting to others. It can really depend on the settings of your modem, and router. I believe the easiest thing to do is to fully expose your Wii to the internet, allowing you to connect with everyone, otherwise you may still be able to find others, but potentially fewer.. You'd have to assign your Wii a static IP address (ip address thats always the same), and add that address to the DMZ setting in your router settings. If your connection is configured properly to work with Brawl, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding people, as is the case with me. As I said some days you will get more errors and may have more of a difficult time, but lately that hasn't been the case for me. As far as button delay and slow down, this can also be caused by interference with your router, or someone on the same network streaming videos, or downloading while your playing. So I'd suggest testing for yourself when your the only one using the network, and make sure your not downloading or uploading, or any of that. You shouldn't experience too much button delay or slow down in this case. If some of you want help, I can try my best to try and help you get your connection configured. Let me know.

Having an excellent connection does not mean anything. If your connection isn't configured to work with brawl chances are you may run into problems. This doesn't in any way make the game broken, and its no ones fault but your own if your connection isn't configured to work with the network. Some online networks are just built differently, and its not gonna do you any good to try and compare Brawl's Wifi with Mario Kart's, and Call of Duty's. I ran into the problem of slowdown while playing a friend who lives less than a mile away like once or twice. It happened when the game first came out, and another time some months back. I believe it was just a crowded server as the problem went away after a little while. If this happens to you every time you play, then this would most likely be a problem with your ISP or connection.

Brawls online is passed off as being broken, or a horrible experience. These results clearly show that to be false. As I stated, when there is higher traffic, more errors may or may not occur, but the same can be said across all Wifi games.

Well if you know she likes you as well, and you should know (you just know..), then I'd definitely tell her. Like others suggested not through a text though.
