How old is the Xbox? You can try using a DVD lens cleaner to fix the DDE error. Or a can of compressed air.

i was playing black for a good 2-3 hours, turned off my xbox, ate dinner, turned it on, and it came up with a disc read error!!! i tried it with 4-5 of my games, and i came up with the same thing! im letting it cool down right now, does anyone know what to do?TreetarD93

On MGS 3 and ICO, which are used games, they have both frozen up (once for each), and haven't proceeded forwards. I have reset the console, and played past the bad parts, and thenthey work fine. I've never had this problem with a disk which I have purchased new, and I'm trying to figure out if it's my disks, or if it just happens randomly sometimes. I highly doubt it's my PS2 because it is a Slim and it seems to work fine. So my question is: do new/unmarked disks ever skip on your PS2's (which generally display no problems)?

Is there any scratches on those two disc? If so that could be the source of the problem. You can try a lens cleaner if the problem is due to a dirty lens.
