[QUOTE="RahKayne"][QUOTE="DataDream"][QUOTE="Fan_of_Gaming"] "The companies each said that the decision to distribute exclusively in the HD DVD format resulted from an extensive evaluation of current market offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs."
What a load of **** The reason they did it is the $150 million Microsoft gave them.

Actually you all...
While I want BluRay to remain available as I own a player (via PS3) according to market analysts and market watch sites - HD-DVD is actually outselling BluRay 2 to 1. The deal is that BluRay is the better technology - but HD-DVD stand alone players are MUCH less expensive making them an easier sell to the less tech saavy consumer. Same thing happened with VHS and BETA - and BETA was the superior technology.
In fact I read an article on AVSForum (one of the industries leading sources for sciense and technology information) that Walmart signed a contract a couple weeks ago for over a million units of an HD-DVD player that they were getting for $30 each. They are planning on retailing these for just shy of $100. That will really hurt BluRay unless a very inexpensive solution hits the market VERY soon.
Yet on the otherside you have the BlockBuster contract - though I now suspect they will break their BluRay exclusivity. I mean BlockBuster isn't going to not rent Paramount or Dreamworks movies - even if they have to reneg on their previous announcement and start carrying HD-DVD, they can't afford to not carry those studios movies.
ALL in ALL - like I said this is a complete mess and the only thing that's for sure is the consumer is going to get screwed one way or another. Hopefully they agree on a format standard or multi-read player soon.
whoa whoa buddy if you wanna be exacting
HDDVD PLAYERS are OUTSELLING BD PLAYERS 2:1 however if you put in PS3's as a BD player BD outsells HDDVD 2:1.
software, blu-ray is outselling hd-dvd 2:1 and they still have support of most of the major studios exclusively, this is just paramounts way of making a chunk of money quickly for a year or 2 cause they know the format war wont end by then and when this deal is up they can go back to supporting both formats.yea, i was thinkin' that's a load of crap... no way HD-DVD is beating Blu-ray, HD-DVD doesn't have enough support. But what i do agree with what mirza said. Look the contract as of now is rumored just to last till the end of 08, and by that time the format war will becoming to an end. Paramount saw 150million sitting there, and took it and ran. So they take the 150 million, lose some of that by sticking with HD-DVD, and jump back on Blu-ray around early 2009.
Also with this said... I can see M$ losing a lot of money doing the things they do. I just can't imagine M$ being able to throw around 50 million to Rockstar, 150 to paramount, and w/e they plan on throwing around much more. Look Bill Gates isn't with M$ anymore(atleast I believe) so the money may be slippin quick in the gaming division.
Paramount must have been smokin' the same crack, Rockstar, and Epic was smoking when they sold their souls to the devil.
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
