what do i do to kill geckos before i get the rail gun ?

Ok i'm at act 4 in mgs4 and i got to the part with some gecko although i never really killed a Gecko. Does anyone know how to kill a gecko, all i know how to do is shoot its legs until it falls my only other method of killing it is to Blow 3-5 rockets on it With my rpg can someone tell me how to kill a gecko using ammo?
