If the same thing has happened with the same game on different discs, it has to be the console... I believe if you call them up and explain the problem, they will replace it for free... When you say it doesnt play, does it say this game cannot be read, or does it give you a black screen afterwards?
it doesnt even do anything. when i put it in, i hear the disc spinning and see the loading icon in the top left corner for a minute. then it just stops, and it doesnt appear in the game section.Im not a hardware guru but if the disc is in good condition because you got a new copy, then its your ps3. Good disc + bad reader = no go :/ If you cant find anymore information, call customer service to see if you cant fix it, and if you still cant get it working, request a return...
