While much of what was reviewed at the time it true, there has been much improvement with the patches (now up to 1.22) that EgoSoft has provided. Also, while XR is not as deep nor as complex as previous X games, it is a good introduction to the X universe. If anything, it should tempt people to go back and try (if they haven't previously) older games in the X series....especially X2 and X3. I will also say that many of the mods that have come out for the game have made some vast improvements. Don't count it out even though it was a mess at launch. If I were to rate it at launch it would get a 2. After all the patches and being able to finally play through the campaign, I would have to say maybe a 6.
8.0 is far too high a rating. While BF4 is ambitious it has not been properly tested...at least on PC. One map in particular has extreme sound issues....as in missing and no sound. Yes, the action is fine but you may as well turn your sound off for that map. Why EA/Dice did not provide the proper quality assurance I can not fathom. I would have to give the game a 6.5 to 7. If and when EA/Dice fix that issue, I would then agree with the 8.0.
I see the problem with this review...the reviewer has "Michael Keaton" as her favorite Batman actor. Just kidding of course. Some of the things not liked by the reviewer seem trivial though. Like "no surprises". Well, it is a KNOWN character and what else can he do.....
I have no faith in ANY controller...old or new (like this). Console controls are just bad and LIMITED. This one will be no different. I applaud Valve for attempting to dethrone MS and Sony in the "couch wars" but I do not care to participate if any of them are using controllers.
Excellent review to an excellent game. Only going to get better as Devs add content over the next months and modders do the same. Like Arma 2, Arma 3 will be on my hard drive for a long long time.
@Trinitarian Not the same thing. This is a play on all of the pagan gods and not an affront to the true GOD. It is better to know your history then to look foolish and be uninformed.
On the other side of it, could YOU obey God and never be tempted to kill just for the "fun" of it. Here's a game to test that for you.
Story IS interesting. Combat is not tedious but can become frustrating just because it is so different. So far, I am enjoying the game but is smaller doses then just trying to finish it in one sitting. I would recommend the game regardless of any perceived flaws (which are minor).
