[QUOTE="thepwninator"][QUOTE="BranKetra"] I guess if I were in charge, I would've worked on technology or something, rather than stealing people and growing them like livestock.BranKetraWorking on technology was expensive, and there isn't too much you could do for cotton (their main crop) without semi-modern (past 50-ish years) levels of tech.(facepalm)....Are you putting a price on life? I can't do that. Are you serious? africans sold there own people into slavery.

I guess if I were in charge, I would've worked on technology or something rather than kidnapping people and growing them like livestock. the North had slaves in the beggining. only in 1820's did it abolish slavery. and it was because it didn't need it.[QUOTE="fidosim"] Slaves made up a significant portion of the population, and the agrarian economy of the south depended on cheap labor provided by the sizeable slave population. Politically, the ideology espoused by Jefferson, antifederalism, was greatly revered in the South. From the founding, the south advocated Jeffersonian ideals over federalist ideals such as those held by Madison or Hamilton.BranKetra
Pretty much.....except with 100 lashings. Most slaves were treated humanely[QUOTE="Gs4u2"]Thats like asking why rich Northern buisnessmen didn't work in their own factories.BranKetra
The sad thing about this board is that for every 2 smart posters' there's 200 dense ones.
The North waved the American flag for close to 100 years, while taking part in slavery. This goes for the KKK, too.
The only reason Lincoln freed southern slaves was to win the war, while northern slaves kept a pickin' (the Emancipation Proclomation wasn't even ratified until Lincoln's death).
People's views of the South are greatly skewed.
I bet you think we all walk around in potato sacks and chew tabacco, too.
The Civil War may be debated more than what led to that, but I ask myself this: If money's so important, why didn't they just do the hard work themselves? I think they were lazy. I'm talking about slave-owners, among others.Thats like asking why rich Northern buisnessmen didn't work in their own factories.yeahSomewhere not caring about the situation. And I still don't care.
