People expected 9.0 so of course they're overeacting about it.

Cows (hate using that term) are going to have to accept that 8.5 is the new 9.0 for them....of course it won't be accepted by the lemmings and other groups, but the PS3 has too many exclusives coming out this year. And these are big budget games. It wouldn't be fair to constantly give out AAA reviews. Especially this year. There are not too many ODST's type scenarios to balance out the 360 exclusives scores this year.

oh wait, there is that HALO: CE HD rumor....so you can add that.

"Fair" should never factor into it. Every game should be reviewed irrespective of anything else around it, on it's own merits. I'm not saying this game is clearly 9+ and is being unfairly docked, because I haven't played it... but if reviewers did seriously consider "how many AAAs can we give PS3 this year" then the whole system is a complete farce. Knowing what I know about advertising dollars affecting review scores, I already have a really pessimistic view of the whole reviewing process, but if "too many AAAs for one platform" was ever validated as a legitimate concern I would stop checking review scores entirely.

It won't "die", per se, but there's no denying that it's foothold in the market is dwindling, especially for big budget AAA titles. People use the same examples to prove it's fine "WORLD OF WARCRAFT BEGS TO DIFFER" or 'THE SIMS!" "STARCRAFT!" but really console gamers could throw 10 Call of Duty's, Halos, Gears, Assassin's Creeds, Gran Turismos etc. out for every WoW or Sims.

MMO's on consoles are a fail from the start.

Only if you completely lack imagination. There is literally nothing stopping someone from making a great MMO on consoles. You only need a keyboard/mouse for the current MMOs, because they were designed around one. I could design an incredible MMO that's console only.

Regardless of whether or not it's "Good" enough, I will personally choose a console > handheld every time. I play handhelds when I can't play consoles or a PC. It's not just a cut and dried substitute for me. I'd rather play on a 50" TV laid back on my couch than on a handheld screen.

I think the main lesson to learn from this is that Lems will go 10x as hard at a .5 flop as Cows will at a Halo Wars. Next time (and there WILL be a next time), cows need to rub it in Lems faces a LOT more. I mean a LOT.

Did LBP2 just get a AAAe a few weeks ago?

I'm still confused on that one. Not the game itself, because I've played it and it is decidedly even better than the first, which was amazing in it's own right. Confused about how it didn't make an impact and nobody talked about it. It's just ignored.

Just last week I was playing KZ2 with Eve and I specifically told him I bet the main reason KZ3 will score below AAA will be due to the story line even though I've yet to play a AAA FPS that had a "good story".

Great atmosphere, and it was well-delivered, but it was hardly an OMG story... which can be said for most games, in most genres. If you dock pts for a crap story from a Killzone, why not dock it from COD or Gears? It's all the same generic crap. We're being invaded zomgs, it's the Russians/Aliens/Helghast, it's up to you and like 4 other people to stop millions of people from dying and save the world! That's about as generic as you can get. At least something like STALKER switches it up and you aren't 1 vs 1000000, Ramboing through impossible amounts of enemies to be a big hero with a giant wang, which is what games like Gears are all about. Do I still enjoy these games? Of course. Do I play them for the story? Not at all. Nor do I expect an amazing story from an FPS. If it's just generic but well-delivered, I accept it on it's merits and enjoy it. Btw, there is a difference between "Campaign" and "Story". You can have an awesome campaign with a crap story, they are NOT the same thing. A lot of people seem to confuse the two here.
