Well last night, I decided to try out The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass's online play. Its called "Battle" Its a 1 vs. 1 type game, where one player plays as Link trying to collect crystal like-things and send them to his/her base and the other player plays as 3 Phantoms trying to get Link. The player controlling Link uses the touch screen and touches wherever he/she wants Link to go. The player controling the 3 Phantoms uses the touch screen as well BUT instead of the regular way, the player must draw lines to where they want the Phantom to go. Like you draw a line to the left and once you lift your stylus, the Phantom will follow the line you drew. And there is a timer for each round. Once the timer runs out, or a Phantom gets Link, the round is over and the players switch sides. So that means that the player controlling Link now controls the Phantoms and vica-versa. Also, there are three rounds.
So my first 3 times playing "Battle" I lost....horribly. But my next time around I got the hang of it. So it was round three and I was winning. I had about 40 points and my opponent had 15. I started heading back to my base with a crystal in hand when suddenly I couldn't move! So i waited a little bit and the screen went back to the main menu and said "Opponent has disconnected." I just sat there in burning rage.... I couldn't believe what a jerk this person was. That would of been my first win and I was so proud. ![](http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/shared/emoticons/cry.gif)
Well I shook it off and started playing again. I lost one match then I went into a rematch. It was once again in round three and I was Link and he/she was winning by 10 points. So I had an idea
Why not just go over to his base and take crystals out of their base to deduct their score and then I would win since there would be no way for them to regain the points. So I ran over to did that and I did. So then it was about to go to the results page, but it took longer than usual. So it finally turned up with a "Opponent has disconnected." I was sooooo pissed. I know its just a game, but thats like losing in a football game and in the middle of the 4th quarter, the losing team just walks off the field. I mean c'mon. I see online games as a competition and walking out like that is just unexceptable.
And so after that I realized that all people have to do is turn off their DS right before they lose to keep a "perfect" record. And the game carries no penalty for it either. Like Halo 3 will let you leave a match, but you will lose EXP. I think every game should have a penalty to wimping out on a game your losing. That way, no one can be perfect by walking out of a game to maintain your record. I mean I don't care if you do it offline, like in Virtua Fighter
, but if your playing against other people to see who is best don't quit just because your losing. Just let the other player who deserved the win get it and then maybe you will do better next time. Well I just wanted to make that clear. So the bottom line is: Don't quit a game if your losing, instead let the other player get the win and then learn from your mistakes and what the other player did to win.
