Just to clear some things up, My name is WGE not WGB ( sorry I had to bring that up), and a majority of the beats on my soundclick page were made using Fruity Loops, execpt my Ether remix...which can be found here http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=366289 (just a senseless plug), and I also try to use both program Fruity Loops and Reason as much as I can to maximize the quality of the music I love. I'm not sure if in a couple of years I'll even be using software, hell, I'd love to have hardware like, samplers, drum machines, keyboards, the fact is I don't have money for that **** right now. In a couple of years I plan to go to a College with a Recording Arts program, and learn how to run a studio and the like. I really wanna do this for a living. And yo, ITI, nice guide, although I knew...well alright all of it, and then some, it's good. I-Own just keeping doin what your doing, I don't think your beats are bad, just keep making em, if you love it, it never matters what other people say.

Do you play the guitar?

yes, somewhat...why?

Just wondering, it seems your very into samples, all I do is original.

yea I am, I'm trying really hard to steer away from that...that's what I did with the Ether Remix.

I'd love to work with samples more often, but I just can't find the right songs. Most of the time I need a song with no drum-pattern in the background, with a catchy melody with no vocals (unless I want to sample vocals)... Anyone wanna suggest anything? i usually check out some of those piano or violin solos, but I don't know anything about that ish

If you haven't checked it out yet, this site is pretty helpful in getting an idea of what to look for: http://www.the-breaks.com/.

And that also reminded me, I was going to do (I'm not sure if it was supposed to be in the Beginner or Intermediate section) a list of like the top 10 most important samples in rap. I'll have to include that some time soon; everybody should try working with stuff like The Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache" and (drawing a blank for the artist) "Take Me to Mardi Gras".

I myself don't really work with samples. Some people do amazing things with samples, and I think that's great. But on the other hand (and this has especially come in the wake of Kanye West's popularity), sampling has also given tons of kids the excuse to make a track with some drums and some string sample and think they're hot $#@*. And beyond that, the problem I have with samples is that, ultimately, you're a slave to your source material - you're pretty much limited to what's there in the sample, and you can't really do much to change it. I feel that if I can learn to recreate those sounds, then I have a much larger arsenal, as a producer. Of course, this route is a much more difficult one ... I've spent years making beats from scratch, but someone who's been making beats with samples for only a couple months can probably make something almost as good. It's starting to pay off, though ... I'm getting pretty good, imo.

Oh, and as for recommendations, if you're going for more soulful stuff, Isaac Hayes might be good sample material. And if you're going for something a little bit more funky, buy a James Brown record. The man's music is pretty much the building blocks which rap's sound has been built on; and beyond that, I'd say he's probably the most important man in the last 50 years of music. Awesome stuff. I also think I might do a bit in the "Intermediate" section on how to create a beat using samples from a Sly and the Family Stone song.

best sample ever is still fly , that gilliagan island sample owns (technically is it considered a sample ?) ... i dont care what anybody thinks ... thats easily one of the best beats ever ...

Are you talking about the opening theme song for Gilliagans Island?... I don't recall that song being sampled :? ... But yeah, the beat is dope as hell. The horns during the chorus totally hypnotize me when I hear them. And all those little melodies in the song keep it fresh for each listen... I learn something new with the beat everytime I hear it, it's crazy.

My beats suck? BTW, where are yours? :|

:? Umm yeah, anyways...

EXCELLENT guide ITI. I had no idea there were so many other instruments under the "Plugin Presents" :o ... And I actually took the time to follow everything you said on your tutorial, and that walkthrough to that one beat you made is really good.

Can't wait for the next version :)
