What? His (also maybe spoilers) stupid father abondoned him because he was afraid that he might "hurt" Shinji or some other lame excuse. Also he was a hypocrite, with the whole not letting go of his wife's death, as well as other things. Not to mention, he confused me a lot for a while before I finally understood that he took his wife's last name, and there wasn't an error with the subtitles.
I guess I could relate to Shinji... a little bit. That was before I watched the movie, The End of Envagelion though... Also, how can you not hate Asuka then? If ever there was a character one could be more annoyed with, I'd like to know!
I mean I watched the anime twice, twice I tell you! I'd never do that with a show, I just watch it once and move on! What does that tell you? Never again...
I don't hate Asuka, she annoyed me in the beginning but... that tough act was obviously just a front. In the later episodes she truly showed how vulnerable she was, so I started feeling sorry for her.
Let's just say that I had mixed feelings of hate and love for a lot of characters in that show. AND I thought Gendou was a bastard too... but he just didn't frustrate me as much as Shinji... NGE is still one of my favorite animes though. Been years since I last watched it but I still remember a lot...
