The most frustrating games you have ever played?

We've all been there before. Whether it was trying on getting a nerve racking achievement, throwing your controller out the window because you were having a hard time with a certain stage/boss etc... what are some of the hardest games you have ever played? (New or old does not make a difference!)

I'm not even going to try to comprise a top 10 or 20 list of games that have run me ragged, but there certainly have been some tough competitors over the years. Onto the list:

1. The Tower Of Druaga (Famicon Disk System)

Ah, the good old days of the 80s. Remember back in those days where you didn't have the luxury of gamefaqs, youtube, and other news media outlets? You know... you either bought a game, or rented one, and took a chance on it. I have yet to run into another Tower Of Druaga fan (yes the anime series is more popular than the games) as were a rare breed, let alone other gamers in general who actually like this game. Let me start by saying this is a great game by the folks at Namco. The Tower Of Druaga was originally an Dungeon Crawler Maze-Like Arcade game made by Namco in 1984. After it saw its original Arcade release, it was later ported to the MSX, Famicon, and remade again for the PC Engine.

The game also had a story or lack there of which can be summed up in one sentence. You play as Gilgamesh who has to rescue the maiden Ki from the demon Druaga. Overall there are 60 floors in the game (I played the FDS version), and another consecutive 60 in Another Tower which are basically the same floors you have to go through again but making treasure chests appear will be much more difficult this time around. Each floor holds host to a maze of walls, enemies, treasure chest, as well as having to find a key to unlock doors which further aide to your advancements to the next floors. Its a pretty complicated game and tough to explain. I challenge anyone to beat this without a guide because your not going to know where to go, or what to do. This game was made for sadomasochists and I love it! Having to memorize how to unlock most of the 60 floors' treasure chests (some are useless) is a pain as is, but having to deal with some of the more difficult enemies this game has to offer such as the Druaga mages which are a big pain, will either make you give up, or keep practicing. Oh, did I forget to mention you are given a health bar... but its invisible? Took me awhile to 1 Life clear this game.

2. Battletoads (NES)

Ehh, lol. This games very deserving of its mention of being one of the more difficult games out there. The Arcade Battletoads is much harder but this gets a special nod for a few painful levels. Most noteably stage 3. The bike level is really not that enjoyable, I do know that due to the fact reinforces strict memorization in order to just complete it and it boils down to just having quick reflexes (not contra quick because we know contra don't got squat on battletoads stage 3). Overall, theres just not to much to say about this game. It drove me up the wall when it first came out, but now I find myself having less troubles with it (I've completed this with no deaths co-op with a friend took some time) as I got older.

3. Dragon's Lair (NES)

Oh boy. I've played a lot a lot of bad games in my time... hell I can actually sit down and enjoy bad games from time to time. Some of them are actually very fun despite their game crippling flaws. But... I hate this game.. lol. Like many people, when this game first came out I opted out of playing it because of how notoriously bad it was. In the most recent years I finally got around to trying it, just to put my skills to the test. Nothing like playing a good game of russian roulette because once you get to Singe the final boss, thats what this is. Your average gamer will never get that far.. and if your so unlucky as to acquire the D icon which downgrades your weapon back to the dagger before fighting Singe, might as well call it quits. However, speaking from experience the other bosses in this game are very easy, its the levels that will drive you mad.

4. I Wanna Be The Guy

Nuff said.

5. Do Don Pachi DaiOuJou (PS2)

Do yourself a favor, get this game now. I wish I had Japanese X360 for the Black Label Extra, but am glad I atleast have the PS2 version. We've hit the motherload of hard games with Dai Ou Jou.. atleast I have :). Since I first started playing this I haven't put my controller down. This will keep even the most hardened of shoot em up veterans busy for many years trying to get better, and learn how to master the Hibachi. Good luck... because you'll need it.

I will post some more tough games this is to be continued :) Looking to hear your thoughts on what some of the most difficult games you have played, and why.

Games I plan on getting;

Dead Space 2

Aliens Colonial Marines (If this comes out... heres hoping)

Hunted: Demon Forge
