also, i forgot to say Jlay, they are only sending out video of 720p quality, not 1080. the required broadband is only 5mbps at most and on average, 2mbps. that equals an xbox 360 connected to xbox live.
er... computers are not capable of thought, not enough space. the human brain can be measured in the tillions of gigs of space. even rodants have more space in their brains than super computors.
JLay25 doesnt get it. the reason this came to be (and they started to figure it out 7 years ago) is because they figured out a way to compress video and send it out in 1 millisecond. they also figured out a way through most ISP errors by literally going into thousands of hmes to try it out, tweek performance and make it work. the entire thing is still several months away and the project started 7 YEARS AGO. they have had plenty of time to figure things out and polish things off. it is going on external beta in JUNE if you want to try it out eirly and be able to propose ideas for social networking (im proposing an online auction house idea to sell off purchaced games), sign up for the beta at the onlive website.
depends on how ling you sign up for. in xbox live, if you pay monthly its like 12 bucks, but if you pay yearly, its 50. i guessing they will do similar payment plans.
now, developers can build games for OnLives hardware that will have awesome levels of physics properties, small detail, texture, lighting effects and particle effects. although, i cant wait for higher resolutions.
to make things more clear. gamers using PC was not close to extinction, it still has plenty of popularity, but development of big title games specifically for the PC stopped.
well, Mr Perfect, Consoles are the current large platform and he last big game to be developed for the PC was the original Crysis. developer were only making ports of the console games after that. development for PCs were about to stop because the PC isn't as popular as consoles. because of OnLive, this will change.
also, if first party publishers (nintendo, sony, microsoft) don't board the train, there will always be consoles and handhelds. they get so much money from selling their consoles hat they wouldn't likely sign up to be part of the same thing and join the one console future. this will undoubtedly bring the PC back from the brink of extinction. and most likely pick PCs back over consoles in terms of popularity. the appeal of this isn't total cost, its current cost. more people can afford to pay for a subscription than they can afford to splurge on a PC and keep it up to date. because, the money they would have to splurge on a PC would go to food, gas, bills and other living expenses instead of being saved.
in terms of it being in the lower spectrum of HD, is all because of transfer speeds. in the years to come, the transfer speeds will get faster and faster allowing for higher definition. i also thought of a solution for not actually owning the games. in the video, they said that they would let the beta testers give feedback on how the community is set up. so i though of a sort of auction house. i signed up for the beta test, if i am chosen to be a beta tester, i will propose this idea. i will propose that we use a money system like sony's PS3 does where they use actual money. this allows you to be able to sell your purchased games at a discount to other players. i also thought of a way that you don't need a subscription to play game you have purchased but to use the auction house and play online and view other things that need an online recourse, you'll need a subscription. i don't think this new system will take much money away from the OnLive staff or their partners, but it allows more comfort to the end user and actually allows him to own a software copy of the game. now, its not the best thing, but it keeps cost down as you can buy a game for 10 bucks and sell it for 9 when you've drained all want from it (like games with no or crappy online [the darkness, jericho]). all you would need after you buy a game is have an internet connection and you can play your game. i think that would be the best way to do it.
