[QUOTE="ILIKEF250"][QUOTE="toemayo"]Sharp AQUOS 42" 1080p LCD HDTVHave you considered the Sony 1080P model #40v2500 lcd. I traded the Samsung s4095 for this for a 100 bucks more. I think its way better because the component input is lot better in my opinion which a xbox 360 uses plus is has a lot better setting between all the inputs. I had Bestbuy price matched the the from Amazon which they accepted. The Sony cost me only 1799.99 plus no interest for 3 years and since the price drop below 1999.99 the extended warranty was also dropped to 250. Sharp may have been the best a few years back but Sony and Samsung has better ones now

Samsung 40" 1080p LCD HDTV
Model: LN-S4095DBoth on bestbuy.com. The only difference I can see is the Aquos is 200 dollars cheaper. I'll be using it for 360,ps3(when i get one), and cable hd. Should I go with the aquos???? Soon as my income tax check comes in im heading to best buy.

Sony TV's don't do well accepting 1080p through component or VGA, the colors are washed out and the resolution isn't all it could be otherwise. On the other hand, Microsoft went hand in hand with samsung when developing the 360. Samsung TV's are more or less "tailored" to accept signals from the 360 and display them in their true glory. Ask any rep at any store and they will say that if you are buying a 360, buy a Samsung TV.
Just my two cents.
Well off the bat i knew 1080p was not possible in the first place with component. I went with Samsung first because what Bestbuy said. Then I traded it for the sony which is a lot better with 1080p over vga.

I got the Sony 40" 1080P lcd tv fpr 1800 bucks and it is the best fro the money. Model # 40V2500. Its the xbr series but just is good. Thanks for the explination on the contrast. That is good to know.
I plan to use this tv for mostly gaming and maybe some general tv watching but thats it. Its not going to be my everyday tv. I already have a 51" Toshiba for that.
Anyone else have any suggestions on other brands I might look into. What brand/model TV are you using? Did everyone spend $1500 for the sony? Anyone else have experience with the vizio? are you happy with it?
How bout, sharp or panasonic?

[QUOTE="ILIKEF250"]What is the best upconvert dvd player out there thats affordable ($300 or less).cspiffo
Any decent HDTV automatically upconverts DVD's but upconvert dvd players do a slightly better job scaling the picture. You will see smoother text and slightly less blockyness in dark scenes. They won't make a 480p image look that much better though. I wouldn't really bother. Wait for the new HD formats to mature and replace your DVD player with one of those. They will have the ability to upconvert DVD's. Do you have an XBOX 360? If you do then you already have an upconverting DVD player.
I thought at dvd player will only upconvert on a hdmi cable which a 360 doesn't have
