@surrealme i think it is more due to violent people choosing to enact their fantasies in a virtual game environment, free of consequence.

Games are about letting you do stuff you cant in real life. Violence is one of the main things we are not allowed to do for real. So it makes much more sense to feature violence in a game, opposed to forming a family... which is arguably just as important to avoid in real life too.
