[QUOTE="mr-krinkles"]Funny enough I really don't think KZ2 looks unbelievable like most people seem to think. It has some nice effects and lighting, but it really doesn't look great with the textures. NInb4 somebody posts the three good textures the game has (that muddy floor and a couple of random wall ones).
It's ironic, but I play Killzone 2 mainly for its multiplayer gameplay rather than its graphics - most people seem to think people play it for the latter. Although the look of the game really does contribute to the overall experience - well, duh. More specifically, I'm trying to say that when there's a crapload of chaos going on in the multiplayer - which is usually the case - it gives it a great feel.
An example is the multiplayer map Visari Hammer. It has all that ash in the air and 32 player matches are always epic. So many people shooting the turd out of each other, explosions all over the place, debris flying off walls and on top of it you have all the turrets and aerial bots. The aerial ones are awesome, sometimes they crash into each other and explode very realistically with physics galore. When all that insane war is happening simultaneously all around you, it really makes you appreciate the game. You may reading this and thinking it happens in all games, but really, the sense of destruction in KZ2 MP is on another level. You really have to play it (and take the time to get used to the game's general feel - this isn't COD) to appreciate what I'm talking about.
I love KZ2's multiplayer and I'm mainly a PC MPFPS player (CS1.6, CSS, Team Fortress, Quake 3...).
thank you for this post...This is exactly what I'm trying to show through the pics. I think the physics contribute to the graphic fidelity of the game though. Which is why I posted pics of the explosions and what not.
