@Barighm:Rian Johnson didn't do his research, he cast a Vietnamese lady to appeal to the Chinese audience, but China and Vietnam don't get along, so his plan pretty much backfired. Boyega and Marie Tran (among other actors) were cast just for the sake of diversity, if you were in their shoes, would you not feel slightly insulted? You were cast not for your acting talent, but just because of your ethnicity just so the director/company can go "Look at how diverse we are."

And yes, her role and character were pretty horrendous. You don't need to look any further than her awkward line delivery of "Not fighting what we hate, but saving what we love" at the end of Episode 8, while she was delivering that line, the giant laser is blowing open the gate in the background, it's almost parody. Finn was stopping the laser to not kill The First Order, he was doing it to protect the Resistance. Rose's sister Paige used the bomber to assault the Dreadnought... to protect the Raddus BECAUSE HER SISTER WAS ON IT. Rose's whole philosophy completely contradicts everything presented to us in the film.

@Barighm: Have you considered that this is the Internet, and people just behave like twats and will go after people for the stupidest reasons? Also, she got hate becaus the character she played was written like shit, not because she's Asian. Find me one person who legitimately dislikes Marie Tran's portrayal as Rose because she's Vietnamese and nothing else, and it has to be unironic.
