The reason they would do so is to take care of the gaming market competition. Since the vast majority of MS's interest do not having anything to do with the gaming market, it seemed prudent to point out their ability and willingness to buy Sony was not nearly as large as portrayed. This isn't damage control I don't own and will not own a 3DS or Vita. The point is the environments could not possibly be rendered in real time on the 3DS, it's just not possible, and if you want the handheld with the better graphics then it's the Vita, not that the best handheld graphics are really anything to write home about. Plus you've just taken bad examples:

I cant buy a PSP where i live, they were discontinued after Vita, so even if Crysis Core was a good game (the art/graphics are garbage though), i could not play it because of Sony genious idea to not have BC
