If it's not good enough for theaters, why should we care?

Fail.

It makes no sense that Halo 2 would be left a standard-def game when all the other titles of the series are now HD. A high-def Halo 2 would complete the circle, and would be certain to sell well at modest developer expense.

They need to save Halo 5 for the next X-Box if Microsoft expects the system to sell.

@soughtthesmet It's so obvious, I wonder why more people don't recognize that fact?

@ruisan101 @JRLennis @Voice_of_Wisdom I agree that a story-driven game with weak gameplay cannot stand. Since this is an interactive medium, the interactivity is obviously important. I just fear the idea of a story-driven game may fall by the wayside if more developers don't get their act together and realize that narrative and gameplay are equally important in such titles. One should compliment the other.

Of course, you don't need a compelling narrative in a platformer like Mario, but without story-based games platformers and action titles would be all we have. The industry would be stuck in the 1990s with no model to innovate interactivity. Personally, I would have lost interest in gaming years ago if not for story-driven experiences like Final Fantasy.

@Voice_of_Wisdom How many times have you said that, now? How about backing up what you say with concrete examples?

@Voice_of_Wisdom @Serjaum2004 If you want us to respect your opinion, you need to tell us why you don't think games are a valid medium for storytelling. Bold proclamations that go against majority opinion deserve an explanation. From your comments, you seem to be a purist who looks at games as more of an exercise of skill than an experience. If so, that's okay. They still make games to cater to that crowd. There's no need to poo poo on those who prefer an interactive experience over old-school conventions. There's room for all of us, isn't there?

"6-12hrs story-driven AAA games makes no sense commercially any more."

I actually agree with this. Why should players care about a story with so little content that they can finish it in under 15 hours? We pay a lot of money for games, and expect real value from the experience.

Aside from that, my gamer's heart is descending into a pit of dread reading Sundberg's statements. He isn't the first dev to make such comments, and I fear the effect this will have on future games. Already, I see very troubling signs in the upcoming generation of consoles.
