Half-Life still holds the title in my book. It's the only game I've ever played in which I've actively noticed how great the AI is.

I still rememeber one time I played through Surface Tension: I got to the part where they shoot you down out of the ventilation shaft into a car maintanence garage, and I ran over to the nearest cover I could find, which happened to be a pole. In the heat of battle I didn't think of what the pole might be, I was just desperate for something that might block some of the bullets. To my surprise and amazement, I saw the nearest soldier stop firing, run up to a switch hanging from the ceiling, and kick it. I realized that the pole was part of a vehicle lift, and I was standing under an SUV right as said SUV dropped on my head, killing me instantly. To this day that moment sticks out in my mind as the coolest death I've ever experienced in a game, and it makes me realize that Half-Life's AI really is designed with one goal in mind: to kill you in the most efficient way possible.

Absolutely. I was scared $hitless the first time through HL:1 back in the 90's; those bada$$ military types wee fierce and smart!

Overall do you see real improvements in A I over the last 5 years or so?F.E.A.R is sure an improvement, but do you see many RTS(or FPS) games with better tactics etc..? I v'e been playing mostly RTS games from several years back-so I'm curious.Ken1a

There are only 3 action/adventure/FPS games that have anything even vaguely representing AI:

1. Half-Life 1

2. FEAR

3. Far Cry

No other games I've played (note; that I've played) have anything taht can be called "AI". Unless "running head-on a t a bad-a$$ machine-gun wieleding marine who just wasted hundreds of your brethren without breaking a sweat" intelligent. Stupid HL:2, stupid Bioshock, stupid everything.

I should note that STALKER may have good AI, but until a patch is released, I won't really know.

I get tired of looking through the forums and seeing the console jockeys bragging about how console gaming is so much cheaper than PC, without actually thinking about it, so let's break it down.

Most households have a PC in them. Anyone who owns a video game console probably has a computer as well. A normal desktop will probably run you about $800, right? Add in your $400 Xbox 360 and that's a grand total of $1,200.

If you just get a gaming PC and use it for normal computer tasks as well, then you have your home PC and your gaming machine all in one.

How much does it cost for a gaming PC to be equal to an Xbox? $1,200? Give or take? I'm not sure, so maybe you could tell me. BTW, that is including a monitor and accesories.

Another perk is that you can upgrade a PC whenever it becomes necassary, instead of waiting 4-5 years for the whole new console to be released.

So when you have a console ($400) then you still need at least an average computer ($800) = $1,200

Gaming PC, it's amore powerful gaming system, and a better PC ($1,200) = $1,200

So in the end, PC gaming isn't as expensive as you might think. :P I'm not a console hater, just so ya know. There is a PS3 and a Wii in my house, they aren't actually mine, but I do play them sometimes. But I do prefer PC.

Does having a dualmonitor setup reduce gameing performance? My computer that i just put together has so far been able to run everything i throw at it at max settings, but now oblivion is giving it trouble. It even ran gtr2 at 1440x900 at all max settings flawlessly. So back to my point, does a dual monitor configuration reduce game performance at all?

Thanks in advance all

puremage1209

Dual monitors should not reduce performance. It certainly hasn't slown down my computer any.

I assume you're talking about the last part of the demo. Did you ever ponder hacking the security bots, then blowing up the camera, then waiting for the enemies to jump down into the water and zap them when they're standing in it? Do this and you only end up having to shoot a couple enemies. MyopicCanadian

No, that did not occur to me. I am not use to such strategizing in an FPS - maybe I'll try the demo again in that fashion.

From the GS REVIEW:

The enemies still mostly run at you mindlessly while attacking, occasionally getting into scraps with one another or breaking off to find a healing machine, but they take longer to kill and hurt you more when they hit. Its weak link is its unsatisfying no-skill-required combat.

GS_Review

What do you guys think? Judging only from the demo (which is dangerous, I know), do you agree? I do.

Thanks for nailing it, GameSpot. That's exactly why I will wait until this game is in the bargain bin.
