Yup.. I agree 100%. While i don't hold a lot of hope for it... if they were to pull off even 85% of what they want to do. It would be a huge (and looong overdue) leap forward for gaming. And hopefully give us another way to design some kinds of games.. Be able to move past, in part, the 'set piece' (in the physical sense, not literal/literary) style of game building we only have now.
@aproxinate: "I still play the originals on 480p and they run just fine. When did games become all about graphics instead of gameplay and story?"
Yeah, same here. I'd say either right around the time that games went bigtime (mainstream), a/o when the PC masterbator race came onto the scene. It's pretty sad really.
This is what happens when you basically ignore a/o at the very least fail to understand the source material. Then go so far off source that you end up with a classic completely cheap and utterly generic hollywood "save the world/people/*blank* from the evil corporations!!1!" storyline. (and not a very good one at that.) The few small bits of the deeper concepts of the series that the movie tries to take on. It either gets backwards, or not at all.
"the movie had a total budget of $250 million, which includes the $110 million production cost and $140 million for worldwide publicity and advertising."
o___o
Maybe they should have spent more of that on better writers.
