If I say I'm an oil man, you will agree.

I was thinking about making a sort of music video based around a few compositions from the score for There Will Be Blood. That won't be happening for various reasons, but mostly because if you wanted to hear the score, you could easily download some tracks from Amazon or go out and buy the CD. I suppose the same could be said for my previous entry. However, I stumbled upon the first domestic trailer a few days ago (I hadn't really been looking up any media on the film until then) and it features my favorite piece from the score, "Future Markets," quite prominently. I'd like to share it with you.

Interestingly enough, the score was composed by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood. It truly is a great piece of work that compliments an excellent film. You may have noticed it wasn't nominated for an Academy Award. This occurred because of a rule that states original work must accompany a film longer than any pre-existing content. Greenwood composed 35 minutes of music, while the remaining 46 consists of various CIassical pieces.

Buena Fortuna, 47.

Ah, now it's time to delve into the sounds of Hitman. Those of you who may have been following me a bit more closely will have seen similar content in the past. Although the music selections are the same, the presentation has been revamped for various reasons. I'm no expert on musical stylings or composition, so rather than typing up a few paragraphs on what makes Jesper Kyd's music great, why don't we simply let the music speak for itself?

I've been considering making compilations similar to these for film scores (with Jonny Greenwood's work on There Will Be Blood making a strong case for first selection). Any feedback is appreciated.

Oscar Picks

The 80th Annual Academy Awards

Just a few...

Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Actress: Julie Christie (Away from Her)
Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)
Supporting Actress: Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton)
Directing: Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men)
Picture: No Country for Old Men

"Call it."

I probably played it safe by picking only a few, but I was right on all counts except for one (Actress). Marion Cotillard won for her potrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose. I hadn't even really heard of the film until last night. Admittedly, I only know maybe one or two songs by Edith Piaf -- not including La Vie en Rose -- so that should be enjoyable once I get around to checking it out. 2007 was a great year for video games, but I'll attest to it being even better for the movies.

Star Wars Galaxies Emulator

Just a quick note before I retain my regularly scheduled Hermit Mode here. For anyone who played Star Wars Galaxies pre-Combat Upgrade (and especially the New Game Enhancement), you'll be very interested to know that the SWGEmu project is coming along quite nicely. Galaxies is the only MMORPG I've ever devoted hundreds upon hundreds of hours to. It really was something special before Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts completely fudged it up by introducing more WoW-like characteristics. That's why the emulator is a shining beacon of hope for those of us who yearn to play Galaxies the way it was. So if you own a copy of the game or if you have ever wanted to, the emulator should prove some nice incentive as the beta is functioning and in fine form.

Hermit Mode engaged.

Did I ever mention that I love BioShock?

That I do. And I can travel back in time. Before Jack had his fun in Rapture, I was there first, see. Brought down my little, ol' 16mm handheld. Had a buncha guys draw up some pictures, too. At any rate, no one believed I'd been to the bottom of the Atlantic (can't say as I blame 'em) and I came back here before I could find out if the film -- titled "The Sights and Sounds of Rapture" -- was a success. Apparently, it never even made its way into the hands of a studio. Fortunately, for me it only cost a few dollars and a ruined shirt. Yeah, seems I've got some special genes. Thought the only one I was related to down there was that Jolene gal. But bullets and rivets, go figure, only hurt for a few moments and, hey, I got to see the light at the end of the tunnel a few times so cool beans. My friends the Andrews Sisters, Bing Crosby, Perry Como and Django Reinhardt were there, too, by the way.

''The busy man is troubled but with one devil; the idle by a thousand.''

That's some Spanish proverb. I found it while looking up random quotes on the word "busy" in an attempt to come up with a witty title. Did I do all right? No? Well. That's OK. See, the thing is I'm not so busy as much as I want to turn my focus towards certain goals. Nothing big, mind you - mostly things such as (ooh, here comes a list):

-Focus more on completing games (i.e. wipe out that backlog)
-Read more often; I have a ton of Star Wars novels, comic books, fiction, non-fiction, etc. that's just begging to be read
-Watch more DVD's with the filmmaker commentary on
-Expand my Frank Sinatra CD collection (because Gold just doesn't cut it)
-Spend less time on the 'net

Now, that last one is key. I don't wanna give anyone the cold shoulder though, especially my beloved friends here on GameSpot. Maybe I should just log on to Skype more often or sumpin'. I dunno. We'll see. The problem is that oftentimes I'll just sit here in front of the monitor while staring at the screen and marvelling at my luscious profile. What's wrong with me? Gah! Anyway, I'll try to keep up with your posts and all that there (yes, I give props to Darren on that one). And, wow, I almost rival some of Wootex's older posts with this text (what with the parentheses - ha, here we go again! [ah, now here's the bracket within the parentheses... but what comes after this? I could never figure that one out...]).

Toodles (Darren again).
