This all just seems pointless to me. PC players will stick with their more powerful and customizable PC's and console players won't even bother with it because of no AAA games (because it's Linux based) and being punished for their preference of a controller over a m and k/b in any multiplayer game. Also, if this turns out to just be some kind of streaming box, that makes it even more pointless because you'll still need a powerful PC and most PC players already have an HDMI output to hook their PC to their TV. Seems like their biggest competition will be the Ouya, not Microsoft and Sony.

@Fanible @bkohary no, no it will not. It's Linux based meaning as of right now there are probably only about 100 games that will be compatible with this OS.

I like the idea of a Steam box and all but I honestly don't see the point. Most PC players won't touch it because they prefer to build there own, have that extra power, and have something unique that they can say they built themselves and console people probably won't be interested in it because console players like their controllers but if you have a choice between using a controller or a mouse and keyboard anyone who uses a controller will get dominated by whoever is using a mouse and keyboard. The only way I see this working for everyone is only allowing kb/m players to play with other kb/m players. But as of right now I see this being a very niche single player/couch co-op piece of hardware.

@gufberg @JayQproductions @meatz666 Agreed, I never said or meant to imply GTA wasn't a superbly made game. I was just pointing out that bringing up GTA in an article about the cost of making games is pointless. Even if GTA was released every year, reused art assets, and wasn't as good as it is, it would still make more than it cost to make because of the name alone.

@meatz666 GTA is just like COD, they sale most of their copies because of the name alone. Also just like COD, probably half of the people who play GTA never do even half of the actual story. GTA has just as many if not more sheep than COD.

@fredyellowone maybe on next gen consoles but on the 360 Watch Dogs looks worse than Saints Row 2.

Well, PS3 was "noticeably faster" and more powerful than the 360 also yet 90% of multiplatform games looked and played better on the 360.
