They're there because of the commentary, which is supplemented by the source material (ie the game).

The point being that they are there for the commentary. Most of the time the game they are playing is a secondary reason they may be watching the video.

If there was ever to be some sort of "Cut" of youtube profits it would have to be a miniscule one, the game is hardly the reason people watch let's plays, and to be honest the "Free advertising" effect has made me purchase several games I would have never even looked at. This "Let's play" thing is a give and take for developers and tubers.

As long as the let's play is comentated and shows the creator is going to lengths to add his own flair then a let's play is perfectly fine. Streaming video of you silently strolling through the game soundtrack a blazing? That's another story.

It's almost a shame to see people in this video game development space start to take on prehistoric attitudes about the ever evolving nature of technology. Christ...Fish sounds like record labels back when Napster was something new and scary to the industry.

Adapt or die, the internet demands it.

While interesting it's just not what I as a PC gamer am looking for, if I want handheld experiences I have other better systems that fofucs on a proper handheld experience (3DS/Vita)

Can't imagine wanting to degrade my PC gaming experience like this.

Maybe it's just me but not having David Hayter as the voice actor really takes me out of it. Why Kojima...Why!?

It's not a scam I do find that this trend is going to quickly turn on developers considering a great deal of them release their "Alpha versions" and just let consumers sit with little to no word on development or updates.

The best ones to do the early release model are they ones who are knuckled down to quick updates and constant community feedback, it makes you feel as if your investment is helping the development process, instead of just funding the next yatch outing for the developers to ignore the game for a few more months to maybe release a tidbit of news once every 4 months to slake interest.

As much as I want the game to be good, Dead State had a bad habbit of this and it was a kickstarter game. The updates come painfully slow and the developers are on their forums complaining about how hard it is to make the game rather than update the community, they are shy about releasing any details beyond that "Were working on it" and it goes months sometimes without hearing a word from the people.

The thing is they don't have to do it, far from it they don't need to speak to the players at all. But the consumers eventually will throw their hands up in the air and say screw it! Sure they may be out their "Beta cash" but people love to hate, and make sure that everyone knows that they hate something. Kickstarters would run to the highest hill and scream at how much they hate this developer for slacking off and consumers would more than likely listen considering how on the fence people are about kickstarter or early access projects.

Oh man they are desperate to get some site traffic going.

While it's obviously 100% clickbait why this even got posted.

Dark Souls isn't a series for everyone, many people enjoy being able to get lost/confused/challenged and not have the game pop up and hold their hand through the difficult times. Some people enjoy having to puzzle the story together themselves it's not "Indesipherable" it's very open ended and let's the players craft their own opinions and allows the community (I know shocker that a mostly single player experience has a community) to build up a knowledge base and share it with others.

The Souls series is a unique one where the developers craft a world and unleash the players into it with little to no knowledge of it's mechanics, story, or even reason for it's existence. Players are giving a string of the story to follow and have to peice together what the hell happened like how a real person would have to in the situation, they will end up with their own version of the story that may be innacurate but it's "Still real to me damnit!".

There is a type of player that thrives in this environment, it's not made to be a game for everyone and that's why it can be so damn good. Many games have the problem of trying to pander to every person on the planet and they end up being unable to focus on any type of audeince so the game comes out being bland, lacks depth, challenge, that other playes would find to be a hinderance or confusing.

Christ look at Call of Duty, the game is sucsessfull because it's generic, they know how to pander to the every-man. Does that mean that it's the only great FPS out there?

Nope.

Why do you still think tons of people still dick around on the original Counterstrike?

In short, I agree with his review in some areas the game isn't made for everyone and he has every right to be a grumpy guss about it. However what the Souls series does is it knows it's market, and caters to them amazingly. I'd give Dark Souls 2 a 7-8 but not because I dislike the game itself it's amazing but there really is alot of polish that the game could have to make it amazing.

If the rumors are true and project "Beast" is Dark Souls 2, hopefully we will get to see the polish on graphics, lighting, mechanics that the series desperatly needs.

Interesting I would have thought XIV: ARR would be their most expensive project.

Guess that goes to show that running a MMO on no profit (Had the game subscription free for a hella long time while they worked on it and then closed it down for a good while as well.) is still less cash consuming than AAA production.

While I'm sure were all to quick to point out alot of the hackmy acting and dialogue in 13. It's not all that unrealistic to think that the Japanese version characterised her much better and we lost alot of the game in translation.

The game and characters had potential to be great but in the North American versions it was woefully written, but it would actually make sense if the story was just butchered in translation it would explain a few things to say the least. Not something I would expect SE to do in this day and age but you never know.

@uninspiredcup: I present to you a room, it's full of the shits I give about a new Resident Evil game.

If they decide to really make it Survival Horror again I'll sing it's praises to the ends of the earth but they need to show me first.

Demons Souls all the way.

Dragon God was a beast (A bit dissapointing in his final encounter but the first time you met him...if you managed to be the tutorial demon dear god)

Maiden Astrea...dat music...dat backstory. All the bosses had such potent symbolism and meaning. Dark Souls kind of phoned it in and didn't leave as much lore scattered to fill in the gaps.
