OverClocking.

Since my computer has so much on demand OCing. I figured I am going to use it.

My motherboard has a NOS feature (right now it is set to 7% OC under load). And My VIdeo card uses MSI's Dynamic Overclocking Technology (DOT @ 6%). Not a huge OC but enough. Seems to be plenty stable. and more then fast enough.

Oh one other thing...

To get my temps below 40C. lol that was too funny.

I have a big 120 MM case fan in the back of my case blowing air into the case. While my CPU fan is trying to push air over the CPU the opposite direction. Basically I had a lot of stale air sitting on the CPU. Changed directions on the Case fan and temps dropped about 9C.

I have one of those heatsinks that blows air across the heatsink rather then straight down.

3.5 Ghz

I finally got past 3.3 GHz. I had to move the ram from 400 to 320 to make it work. And I also found out that the chip does not need more then 1.35 volts under maximum load. Add more volts and you get more heat not speed. I can get 65C @3.3 with 1.65 volts. Right now @3.5 under load I get 39-44C @ 1.31.

I also changed the timings to what they should be not by ram speed and disabled spectrum spread (makes board more stable turned off) and I set my dram wait time to 0T rather then 8T. Boots in 1/3 the time.

Speed differences

Okay I have done some playing around now and will keep playing around. But the old Sempron used to encode video at like 15/20 FPS.

The Intel 630 does like 60 FPS and still runs IE and formats a HDD and runs an AV and messenger program at the same time.

Games the Sempron is pretty much the same. And the Sempron boots faster because of the low latency.

Windows X64

It may be a great idea but no software seems to support it. I am going back to Windows XP SP2. No more X64 Pro or Vista X64 for me.

Parts Arrived

I have the Intel 630 in my system I have not managed to OC it very much yet. I am going to try upping the Vcore a bit to see what that will do. So far I have only got to 3.3Ghz (about a 10% OC).

Ordered Intel 630

Okay I finally ordered a new Chip for my PC. I also got This for free with the order.
I actually would have rathered the Intel 640 but for the 200 MHz that I got for $100 Canadian I could not convince myself to spend that much. And a 3.0Ghz is probably plenty fast for me. Should be fun to have EMT64 and HT to play with. I guess it is going to be Windows X64 and Vista X64 for me from now on.

OC again

I have now overclocked my Sempron 2400+ to 1850 Mhz or above 2600+ speeds. It seems no more unreliable then before but will keep testing.
