Halo 2 and Vista Again.

Guess what? MS's marketing paid off. I bought a copy of Halo 2 (to install when I get around to putting Vista back on my machine :D).

Why? because it only supports Vista. I have to admit I was rather annoyed that it is still a 32bit program (but then honestly who needs the extra 32 bits yet?)

Supreme Commander Revisited.

Well since I have been offline a bit I have had time to look for and try some other games. And I figured I would give Supreme Commander another chance. You see the demo kicked my butt out in about 6 minutes. Which I though was rather quick (on easy of course). So I go and buy a game which I hate.... And try again. This time it takes 30 minutes to get my butt kicked off the map. So I had read someplace that SupCom favours an agreessive play type. IE, the early attackers. So I figured I would give that a try... 9 minutes later I had the map to myself... So either the game is insanely hard (if you play wrong) or too easy :D. Oh well.

One thing I will say... dual monitor support? Holy cow that is nice. And the method of going from one area of the map to another... no more scrolling sidways... I have to admit that there is a lot more to this game then I thought. I also need to install Vista soon so I can try this out and see if it looks better with DX10 :D. I did manage to bog my CPU down once I get more then 500 vehicles. So I think I need a Q6700 or something soon. We'll see what the penryn prices are :D

Summer Hiatus

It's about that time of year again...

I'm gona sorta go missing for a few months again like last year. Work time with no play... Shoot oh well. Whatever happens happens. I will be back now and then but not as regular as the last few months.

System change ideas.

Okay. I have just about had it with my Asus P5W-DH board. I am getting tired of the way it an Vista get along so I am kindof looking at something new. I was hoping the X38 (non T model) would come out soon but I am not sure what brand I am going (besides that it will not be MSI or ASUS). Gigabyte and DFI list high on my choices.

Also. I am just about ready to disable raid and go back to just two drives so I can have Vista and XP installed on separate drives. I mean the speed loss is not really that large and if I upgrade motherboards soon I won't be using EZ-Raid anymore (since Asus is not producing it anymore I am looking elsewhere for boards). That is really the only feature that kept me in the Asus brand this last motherboard upgrade. Gigabyte is really looking interesting to me. But Dual boot is probably pretty close for me.

Halo 2 and Vista

This is prompted by a blog a unionite complained about people jumping him on (I won't link him so no one else jumps him).

But I will say this.

Yes it is just dreadful that Halo 2 is coming out on Vista and not XP... Dreadful. I mean the game is how old? can't you just play it on the console already?

As for why it is on Vista. MS does not need to make any money off the game anymore so selling it on Vista is a bonus... Maybe a few idots will upgrade. Most of them will get upset but that is not a problem for MS... They still don't care what us Users think are good features.

UAC is a bug not a feature... but then that is my opinion..

And Yes Halo 2 is a Games For Windows game so it is a Vista x64 supporting game. Why would MS want to release that on XP? They are trying to kill that OS..

Guild Wars.

I have now been playing this game almost exclusivly for 2 months... I would have to say that means this game is good :D

I have got tired of Nightfall now and then but since I have the two other games I can play them now and then. And also. I have 8 characters so that is also cool.

Adjusting to chopping things up with special keys has not come easy though... Normal for me is point at something and shoot till it dies. This approach seems to work quite poorly. That said. I really like the lack of monthly fees and the fact that I can play with other people.

Vista Activation = Very Annoying

Okay. Now I am really glad that I got this Vista Ultimate free. I updated my BIOS this morning to change some things and guess what... I had 3 days to activate. So like a good little boy I call him up thinking that was due to my RAM upgrade earlier in the day. Nope. Apparently everytime you update the BIOS you have 3 days to contact MS. Oh and you have to talk to a real person too because Emily is pretty useless (the automated system).

Yes I did ask him if that would happen everytime I updated the bios and he said it would. So I kindly (well at least without any swear words...) told him that I would tell people not to get Vista. So there you have it. And I did upgrade to XP. Now I just have to get Guild Wars running again...

DDR2-1066 Mushkin

Well I finally have upgraded my RAM. 2GB now and I think I'll be happy with that for a little while.

one interesting thing.... It seems this high speed RAM does not really do much... DDR2-667 seems about the same to me. Sure it gives slightly bigger numbers in benchmarks but it's now faster then the CPU FSB. I'll have to do some testing on that.

Traveling Time

Well finally I'm off to the coast to visit my parents. I probably will be around still as it will be easy to get net access there though it may not be as often...

I Finally Upgrade to XP - Not

What has it been? Since November now? I just finally gave up on Vista and have gone back to XP. I am not sure that will last more then a month but I just had to play some games :D.

Update: this lasted a full day. Oblivion plays much better on Vista then on XP.
