In my opinion, it's the age old, "If you haven't done it, then you can't criticize it!" cop-out in its many forms. The foundation of it is that only people that have experience in that field are qualified to say how bad it is. Not only is it the opposite of what constitutes a "market", but under that same mindset, shouldn't a person not praise something if they have no experience in it? Besides, if you've seen "really good" and the contemporary doesn't even come close and you can see the points where it is lacking, can't you gauge it as being bad despite it not being your calling?
It's just an inherently failing defense.
Her movies have made a respectable amount of coin, but she is the same person in all of them. It seems she is a master at picking those roles in movies that will make money in spite of her rather than because of her. "Just Go With It" with money magnet Adam Sandler is a prime example and she did it with "The Bounty Hunter" when Gerard Butler was hot for a minute. It's a perfect way for her to look like a consistent draw despite the constant bagging on her lack of ability. I think she learned the subtle art from Jeff Goldblum, who managed to be in some of the biggest hits of the 90s despite playing the same annoying guy.
- People that can't watch their mouths because I have family members that are connected.
- This one is the big one...the people that are just using you to pad a friend count. They are never interested in your status and when you post on their wall or reply to their status, they never reply back. I even had someone restrict me from posting on their wall, but kept me as a friend. And this phenomena I've found usually happens with people that you have physically met and have a real social relationship with on some level (ex. people that hang out at the same bar on a certain night, classmates). I have no second thoughts about unfriending them....they won't miss you and will have 3 more "friends" to replace you tomorrow.
- An unreal amount of gaming requests. As a working man, I don't even have time to play *real* games, so don't friend me because you need a homie for Mafia Wars.
Tarantino made the case in Pulp Fiction that you're either an Elvis fan or a Beatles fan and you can't be both. And for the most part on messageboards or in casual conversation, people laud one while pointing out all the demerits of the other. People seem to do that for Pac and Biggie as well, though with their history the polarization is understandable.
It'll be back....it always does. It's more immortal than Wikileaks. And if you think ED's racist, sexist, and homophobic diatribes were done "for the lulz", keep in mind that some of the biggest truths are told in jest. Not that what they spewed was true, mind you, but was the real mindset of the writers towards those groups.Pirate Bay got shut down too!
