This is one of the most overrated games this gen imo.

I enjoyed The Witcher, Dragon age, Risen on PC and so many more rpgs more personally.

I love my ps3, games like Uncharted2, MGS4, Killzone2 and Heavy Rain are simply amazing, but Demon Souls just wasnt that good to me. Maybe its because RPGS are my fav genre, I donno, but it was missing alot of things to me personally. Still cant belive it got GOTY.

1) The game had a pretty decent story, it's just not laid out for you to see in text. The only time the game blatently comes out and tells out what's happeneing in very early on when you speak to the Monumental. After that, the story telling comes from observing the enviromnemts, paying attention to subtle conversations with NPC's (some you may not even run into your first playthrough), and simply using your brain. Hell, the whole multiplayer system was subtly part of the story.

2) Most overrated this gen is laughable, since only a niche group of people play it. I don't see how the low sales it recieved would even make it overrated, when hardley enough people have even played the game.

3) My opinion of Dragon Age was the opposite of yours. No amount of storytelling can save a game with shallow gameplay, since in the end of the day, we're PLAYING games, not reading them.

4) Considering you said you liked Dragon Age, I find it funny you thought Demon's Souls' gameplay was boring. All you do in Dragon Age is basic MMO rotation among your skills (and it's not even an MMO...). Demon's Souls has multiple weapon types, each with multiple attacks/combos among themselves, you have complete control over the character, and can be played however you want. Even if you pick a caster, you can still form a character who can dish out amazing melee DPS, because you have complete control over how you level your character.

5) The online for Demon's Souls was good, but could be much better (ironically the one thing I disliked the most about the game)

6) The game is derived COMPLETELY on RPG elements. You make a character, and play as them the way you want. How is that NOT role playing. Every weapon you use is effected by your player stats, your stamina gauge, health bar, mana bar and your overall resistance and luck are all based on your character stats that you form as you level your character. Demon's Souls is almost a perfect example of what a RPG is.

IGN has got to be the most terrible game site on the internet. Have you read their reviews? I don't even consider them reviews, they are that bad. Not regarding games, but they gave the Gladiator blu ray a near perfect score. This blu ray has been deemed a faulty product by just about everybody else.
