I suffer from severe chronic head pain (left sided, in the ear/eye/jaw/neck/shoulder) and chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia. I've dealt with this since age 13 (now 26). I find that video games have provided an amazing distraction. I wouldn't say that it actually REDUCED my pain, but it places me in an area where I can put my focus on something else. I found out recently I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia (P.O.T.S - I know, nice abbreviation right? lol :D ) which is finally a true diagnoses. I wanted to go (and still do) into the gaming industry in some manner. I was amazed to see this article. Games like Skyrim are so immersive that it can truly provide a great distraction. I also love how games combine music, art, storytelling, engineering, and squash them all together in one cohesive vision. Quite amazing! The amount of pain that individuals go through each day is astonishing and it was nice to see an article about it so others can understand and support pain sufferers. To have a distraction is absolutely vital imo.
