I'm kindda.. back.

Meh. It's been weeks. months. I didn't really miss Gamespot, but I'm kindda back on it now. Mostly for the forums, discussions and other intelligent non-biased things I can find here. As far as news/reviews go, I really don't care anymore, I'm NOT renewing my complete account once it expires, but I'll stick around from time to time. So... if anyone's still out there, see you around. :)

Vivendi Tech Support is LAME.

Wow, talk about lame tech support: Vivendi pretty much broke the record in my book. Here's the deal. I received as a late b-day gift F.E.A.R. this year (yeah, it's an old game, but the person didn't know) and well, it's still a very welcome gift but there was one slight problem with it: it was the French version. Now if anybody wonders how that can happen, it's because I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and here they usually sell games with French box art, but the software is actually English. Anyway, I told the person not to worry about it so that I would exchange the gift myself. I went to the store for an exchange (NOT a refund) and they wouldn't exchange it due to piracy reason, and it was more than a week since the game was bought. Oh, well, bummer! So what else was left for me to do? Ask Vivendi kindly if they could assist me on this case. Well, I contacted them to know what I could do, so here's their exact response: ----- Thank you for contacting Vivendi Games Technical Support. My name is Ethan. I will assist you with game FEAR today. In this case I would like to tell you that we would not be able to to give you the replacement for the French version of the game as we here at Vivendi Games Technical Support on support the US version of the game. Best regards, Ethan Vivendi Games Technical Support ----- What a bunch of pricks. It's not like I'm living in France or something -- I'm in North frickin' America, and they're ignoring my case ? What does that mean, if a person that speaks French asks for support, they will **** on them? WOW, way to go! But that's not all. I contacted them again explaining the where I was located geographically and it seems like it wasn't a problem anymore, but they never even tried to help me with the game. I proposed a software exchange, or even just a serial number exchange so that I could use an English copy (because their French software S/N doesn't work with the English one) but they simply replied with another completely lame-ass answer which would probably rate 0/10 as far as "help" goes. Anyway, I'm stuck with a stupid French version of F.E.A.R. and I can't do **** about it. The store won't take it back, and Vivendi is completely ignoring me. What a bunch of losers! As far as I'm concerned, as clear as I've told them on my reply email, I am never buying anything from Vivendi games ever again. I feel insulted -- I'm just trying to get an exchange disk, and they're ignoring me. Jerks. BitTorrent to the rescue!

Has it really been 13 years ???

March 19th, 1994. The last metroid was in captivity... the galaxy was at peace... then all hell broke lose, I played for weeks, months (ah, the beauty of being in highschool, sleeping during class, playing at night... even pretending to be sick here and there, mweheheh) and then got a game genie, used that "Hyper in inventory" game code and replayed it to insane levels. Then replayed it again to get that 3 hours limit (my first game had over 50, but the goal there was to take as much time as possible, milk the ***** out as much as possible). Then replayed it again. and again. and again. ... 13 years later, I think I still have an unfinished game somewehere. Bottom line -- I may sound crazy, but I'm just celebrating the 13 years of one of the BEST games ever made. Even today, it's still MUCH more fun than 3/4 of what is out there. I wish I could have my memory erased so I could re-explore everything like the first time... I envy the ones who've never played it yet -- you've still got one of the best games ever to enjoy. Long live Super Metroid !!!

COMING SOON! www.wiifriendcodes.net

Yep, I'm fed up of the crappy Wii friend code system, so I decided to fix it. I'm building a web site which will let people share their Wii Friend Codes very easily... search for people by region, games and styles... so that you'll be able to meet up with people you think may be a good match. If you have any ideas, leave me a comment. Site should be ready by next week-end (work is slowing me down 10x). So yeah, keep http://www.wiifriendcodes.net in mind. You'll love it ! -- update -- Got something to take care of first. but it's coming. soon. -- update 2 -- since we have no freakin' idea what Nintendo is going to do with its online, I've decided to wait for an actual game worth playing online, just so we know how everything will feel, before going live. In other words, not opening the site anytime soon...

I HAVE MY NINTENDO Wii !!!!

THE REVOLUTION BEGINS !! Insane, got to Best Buy at midninght and there ere already 40 people... they had 60. By 8 am, we were 160 (people were hoping for at least Zelda !) Cool people, great experience, we were waiting in the interior parking so it wasn't even freezing (outside, it was 0 degrees celcius... w00t) Anyway, I slept for two hours, now it's Zelda time until I faint. L8r h4x0rs !

Wii60 begins TOMORROW !!! (update)

So the PlayStation 3 has arrived ! Yeah, so ?! I just came back from FutureShop, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. 449$ for a - Xbox 360 Pro - Live Arcade - GRAW - Ridge Racer 6 - GEARS OF [frickin] WAR Got myself an additional VGA cable and now I'm goot for 720p. w00t! And as if I wasn't spending enough, I got an extended 3 years warranty, in case that red eye pops ! Gotta set this baby up, enjoy every pixel ... then tomorrow night, it's camping time for Wii ! Wii60 ALL THE WAY, BABY !! -= -= UPDATE =- =- I guess it'll begin tomorrow. My hard driev doesn't work, I get an E67. My first ever non-Nintendo console (PSP is a handheld :P) ... and it doesn't work. Can't wait to replace it tomorrow.

Getting in line for a Wii !

Wii is awesome. I've been playing video games for 20 years now, two decades of loving Nintendo systems, however this year it's different. I'm actually going to attempt to get the system at launch. I loved the N64, but got it late. I love the cube, but got it a few weeks later. Wii? I WANT IT NOW. For this reason, I've set up a "plan" to camp Best Buy for a Wii. It's kindda silly to blog about it, but some time ago you would have heard me say "meh, I'll never camp for a system. it's such a lame thing to do." but now we plan on being there at least 4 hours before the store opening. It's supposed to rain, so I have a feeling this is going to help us -- the weak will give up and only the real Nintendo fans will survive! Mwuhahaha!! :P Anyway, back to work.... feels like the clock is ticking backwards... p.s. I will post those Wii pics soon... but eesh, they're really crappy. :( -= -= -= EDIT =- =- =- ANYONE LIVING NEAR MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA THAT WANTS TO JOIN IN IS MORE THAN WELCOME! Free coffee n' donuts! lol ! ¿K? out!

I HAVE PLAYED THE Wii !!!

..and it is insane. I got a chance to touch peice of great hardware at the Arcadia Festival here in Montreal, Canada. The wait for Wii was over two hours, but knowing some people there, I got in the Nintendo area after a long 30 seconds wait (ah-ha suckers!) :D Wii Sports (Tennis, boxing), Zelda (as a wolf, as link and fishing), Warioware and Raving Rabbids. All were great. If I were rich, I would buy them all... I will have more info, pictures and some video later on. I got that with my Cellphone (a RAZR v3x), so the quality is at best crappy, but it's still something. One thing I can say is -- forget about the pictures. Forget about the stories. Heck, forget even the videos! You can't understand how f'ing sweet the Wii is unless you get to stand right next to it. It's sexy, small, the controller feels absolutely natural the very second you use it (I have ZERO issues with it) and the only "getting used to" I could mention, which did take SECONDS, is pointing at the screen. I'm still over-excited. If I had to rate the Wii based on my personal experienec, it would be a 10. No questions asked. I played Zelda on a Pioneer 42" plasma screen, it did NOT feel as "flawless" as Gears of War, but the graphics were still beeeeautiful. The resolution might be lower with Wii games, but one thing you quickly notice is that you can put A LOT of stuff on the screen and the framerate is impecable the whole time. The video game fan in me is giggling... I won't even re-read my post before submiting it because I'm sure it's just a bunch of words slammed together that don't really make sense, but the experience was one I will not forget. I feel like a kid. Nintendo revived emotions in me that I tought I had lost. Xbox 360 was great too -- really I loved everything I saw -- and SONY was nowhere to be found, NO PLAYSTATION3 at the festival at all. Suxx to be them, but I'm happy about it -- some people I meet in line were going there for the ps3, didn't care for the Wii, but then I saw them waiting in line to try it out... and I am convinced that once they do, they will realise that there's no point in being a fanboy. It's just F-U-N, and love or hate Nintendo, the Wii steals the show -- by far. More to come (heck, I may go back tomorrow) ! Wii FTW.

No pre-order for Mii. :(

Sniff... I woke up early this morning. Did everything in a hurry. Left early. Go to the EB Games close to work. It wasn't open yet, and nobody was there... cool. Talked with a guy standing there. - "We're sold out." - "Oh, really? We're talking about the Wii here, right?" - "Right." - "When can I pre-order again?" - "Not before 2007." WTF... I left laughing at him. I guess they really just had a few .. I'm probably going to end up getting mine a few days late, otherwise SOmeBodY gOnnAAa gET HuRt Real BaAad (stealing one from Russell Peters here). Anyway, it suxx... and I was mad... so I spent an hour doing some Mii's with that great flash tool today... can't wait for the real thing.

Some inside info...

As posted in the System Wars: Hey everyone. For those who actually know me a lil' here, well, you all know that I have some friends who work at Ubisoft here in Montreal, Canada and well, from time to time we meet, we talk games and I end up getting some juicy info that you guys like to hear. Well, I haven't come here in a while, I was in Italy for a few weeks (awesome!) and well, when I came back I went to this big BBQ and one of my friends from Ubi was there. Again, don't ask for his name, don't ask for what he does, all I can say is he's told me some nice stuff. Obviously, it would be a crime not to share, right ??? So here it is... First off, for the sheep: Be happy. be very happy. It's no secret now that Ubisoft is a big supporter of Wii, but let's put it this way. They will support all 3 systems, they're working on something for everyone, but internaly the developpers are having the most fun with Wii. It's what they enjoy the most. Everyone in there had a blast playing the demos, I heard a lot of talk about a tenis game -- I don't know if it's that Nintendo demo from E3 or something from Ubisoft, but I was told it's insanely addictive and very well done. "You don't just swing the controller to hit the ball -- you don't just play with your arms. How you move your wrists is very important, too." In other words, it's not just a swing up an down crap of a game. The angle and speed (etc..) of your movement as you hit the ball is very important and is reflected in a very realistic way in the game. While it's been announced lately (he was actually surprised that I knew, ehe!), PoP and Far Cry for Wii were under dev. for quite a few weeks. It wasn't anything new to him. Speaking of Far Cry, sorry sheep -- but for those who were hoping that the game would be proof that Wii had enough power -- NO, IT DOES NOT LOOK AS GOOD AS THE PC VERSION. Sorry. Other than that on the Nintendo side -- hmm, game-wise I have no clue if there's more coming, but my friend had a freakin' frustrating grin in his face when I asked him if anything other than games were in the works. He reaaaally loves the controller and he said that thing has huge potential. "The Internet is ignorant" he said -- we don't know sh!t about what Nintendo is going to sell us. Lemmings, your turn: Be happy, too. I was told that working for Xbox 360 is doing real good, the console was a fun challenge, as with every system change, but they're really having a fun time working on the games. No inside information on what game is coming around -- I just didn't ask, really -- but one thing is very interesting for you guys: Microsoft is very, very, very, very, VERY nice with developpers. They listen a lot, they care alot, they respond very fast. When a developper asks for a tool, they get it. One very interesting example I was given is and I hope this actually does help prove that I'm not BSing (there's always doubters out there): 3rd party companies had a hard time with the Xbox 360's load times. The dev kits are all on HD's, so it was hard to figure out how to do those loading peices of code (keeping it easy for non-techies, OK?) so what did Microsoft do as a response? I was told that only a few DAYS later, they came up with a dvd-drive simulator, basically slowing down the streaming of data from the HD to the "game" as if the info was loaded from the drive. Well, if you asked me before, I would have tought such things existed already, but hey, it seems that Microsoft was the 1st smartest about it. Nothing new, but I was also told that XNA helps a lot, and Microsoft is very serious about bringing gaming to Vista. Once the new DirectX hits, both the PC and Xbox 360 will gain in popularity, he expects. And now, for the cows: Well, you should somehow be happy too, but I'm afraid the bulk of bad news is for 'ya (you should be used to it by now, anyway. ;) !) The PS3 dev kit is NOT final. It's still insanely buggy. It's slow, but worse than that: "It always freezes". Working for PS3 is not only expensive, it's very ressource consuming, because... it just doesn't work well yet. Cell is a ***** to work with and there's some very unbalanced stuff in the architecture. One very interesting peice that I'm sure I will get heat on -- but I'll say it anyway : I don't recall exactly what kind exactly, but some of the memory on the PlayStation 3 [dev kit], compared to Microsoft's which runs a 3.2GB/sec, runs at an amazingly crappy rate of... *4MB/sec*. I don't know what the heck he was talking about, but he knows his numbers, and he told me like 3 times in a row with big eyes like he would have shot someone at SONY for doing something so stupid. Take it for what it's worth. He didn't get to old any official PS3 controller, yet. They all know about the motion sensing too, but he's seen people still using Logitech and PS2 controllers. He wasn't sure of this though -- so take it for what it's worth. and now, though, some good stuff for you guys: Assassin's Creed is AMAZING, he said. He's played it and -- it's beautiful. It looks amazing, but that's not all. It's just a GREAT game. It doens't just look good -- it plays very, very well. That one will surely be an AAA title, don't expect anything less, according to him. So despite the bad news about the PS3, they're still managing to pull a crazy-*** AAA title out of it, so it can't be all that bad, right ? So that's about it for now. There was some DS >>> PSP talk here and there, but nothing new or juicy. BTW: I AM *NOT* writing everything he told me. Yep, there's some other stuff, but I'm just not telling you all, because I'm sure most of you will not even believe what I wrote... but as you can see, I hope, there's really some for everyone, this isn't a biased or fanboy post, though I do admit it's darker on the SONY side of things... which is NOT really surprising, really (let's be real, people.) Oh, I asked him if Nintendo every aproached Ubisoft for some Smash Bros Characters (why not Rayman? Sam Fisher?) and I just got a "no comment". Judging from his face though, I wouldn't bet on it... Enjoy and 'til next time...
