Back from Italy -- got some insider info, too..

Well, I'm back from vacation... Italy was a blast. Spirits were high there, with the world cup win and all; it was a real good time to be in 'da boot !! Anyway, once I again I was struck with the reality I hate so very much about the videogame industry -- I saw more people with DSes than PSPs or even PlayStations at home -- and I heard about it often on the radio (many commercials about it!), however when I looked at prints, it was aaaaaaaaaaaall about the PlayStation 3. Nothing about the Wii. Almost nothing about the Xbox 360. SONY's got t he press there, and it's going to help them a lot. While they have a crappy philosophy about the market and an overall crappy system, they've got all the attention. Oh, the injustice... Oh, BTW, I was at a very nice BBQ this past sunday and I got some very interesting "inside info" from a friend who works at a game company here in Montreal. You know, it's one of those big companies. Think EA or Ubi... the one that's very interested with Wii... I'll post most of what I've been told later tonight... no big revelations, but interesting comments nonetheless. l8r!

Trying to sell my PSP !

Woah, it's a new record. 9 days after I got a PSP, I can't help but regret E-V-E-R-Y penny I spent on it, even if it was a good deal. This thing absolutely suxx. It's been upped to 2.60 , so I can't do anything fun with it, and... the game suck. Yes, I wanted to get Lumines, but I got it for a few days from a friend and... "meh" just like everything else PSP. Just like everything else SONY. I gave the thing a chance, it looked awesome (and I'll keep defending that), but there is absolutely NO content for this peice of junk. Makes me wonder why the heck Capcom, for example, is backing it so much. Get with the program -- go where the fun is, people... go with he DS. I'm going to sell this thing... even at half the price I got it... I don't care... I feel like a fool for having given SONY a chance with my entertainment dollars. No more.

I got a PSP !

Well, at a very sweet deal, from a friend who simply didn't like his anymore. I got two games so far, Wipeout Pure which is fun, and Midnight Club DUB edition which... I just don't feel like playing on tiny screen. In fact, I always said it, but now I can confirm it even more, that's the PSP's #1 problem. Good console games gone wrong on a handheld. Oh, well, my heart is still all over the DS, but I think I can squeeze some fun out of this beautiful peice of hardware with some homebrew stuff. Woah, it's the first SONY electronic I've got in over 7 years... but judging by the fact that I'm already dissapointed about the content, it will probably take another 10 years before I get another thing SONY-branded. As for those who think I'm a treator, since I've always been 0% SONY, it's no big deal. I would have never got one full price, and... well UMD movies s0x0r. It's all about homebrew, I guess, and exploiting my memory stick at best... the UMD slot will probably get some spider webs... Anyway -- the videogame player heart in me is beating real fast, SONY or not. :)

No more unions for me.

Well, I've decided to resign from all the unions I had joined, except for one, which IMO is the only one worth any actual attention. Sorry guys, it was fun, but if you really care to know my honest opinion, geez, there's wayyyy to many unions out there that simply stink. I'm not aiming one in particular, but I'm also aiming all of them at the same time. I guess I might start my own someday, make it actually worth the visit, but until then... keep on copying and pasting news from other respectable publications, folks!

Fed up of the word 'kiddie' !

I posted this on the System Wars forum. I decided to write it in my blog as well because, well, if anyone actually reads this, it would be nice of you if you could drop acomment on what you think about it. Defining the word 'kiddie'... it's a mater of interpretation. If I compare Resident Evil 4 and God of War -- Both are violent, and both have blood. However for some reason, I find RE4 'cool' in its interpretation because it never really got in the way of my gameplay experience, while God of War, I was sort of disgusted bythe violence display of that game. I also find it ridiculous that people comment on games not being 'mature', defining them as kiddie, while other, over-mature games if I may say so, are never commented upon. Grand Theft Auto SA is a great example. Hot Coffee was a big marketing disaster because it got public, but even if it wasen't for the actual display, the concept itself was ridiculous... even before the mod unlock/patch/whatchacallit. To actually have to pick up a virtual girl, take her out and end up in your house (playing tic-tac-toe, of course) is a pretty dumb and immature game concept if you ask me. God of War's display of boobies in the FMV's and exaggerated violence, such as humans being split in half by Kratos, is in my opinion what 'kiddie' really means... because if you ask me ,that game would have been just as good, if not better, without those details. While we define 'cutesy' and 'simple' as 'kiddie', it's actually what we define as 'mature' that makes kids and immature people giggle. And this isn't about Nintendo vs. SONY vs. Microsoft game collections. It's about games, period. Kingdom Hearts is a fantastic game, ON PLAYSTATION 2, and is cheered as being one of the best RPG's ever. It's got Disney content! How come nobody feels immature when playing those games ? It's obvious the word 'kiddie' has become an unfounded insult versus Nintendo and its enjoyable-for-everyone games, but it's quite clear that only kids actually agree with it. When you're a 10 years old kid, you enjoy your Disney movie. When you're 16, you stay away from those things cuz you wanna look like a bad boy to your friends (and that hot girl)'s eyes, but once you're 21+ and have enough in you to call yourself mature, you don't mind watching a Disney movie [with a girl!] cuz you can finally admit they're fun stories. Very psychological, nothing new to who we are as humans, but it's still very annoying... because the way I see it, it's forgivable when it comes from a lil' fanboy kid that posts in a forum, but when you hear it from a 3rd party, it's very disappointing. Words have big values in marketing, and Nintendo is stuck with that one... I hope Revolution fixes that once and for all !

It's been a while !

Woah, I haven't posted here in months. Anyway to everyone who reads, happy new year! 2005 was a good year for video gaming. We saw many great announcements and unveilings, the Xbox 360 launch and some great games... Resident Evil 4, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus come to mind... but despite all that, as a Gamecube owner, I have to admit 2005 s0x0red. Honestly, it was just terrible. bad. sad. I honestly hope Nintendo never, ever does something like this again -- I did replay RE4 4-5 times (and I'm replaying it right now) but you can only squeeze so much juice out of it... 2006 should be different. My Gamecube will still collect a lot of dust, but Twilight Princess will bring it back on top for a while once it hits the market. Right now, I'm waiting for my copy of Electroplankton to come in while I keep (very, very) busy with my PC. I'm already counting the weeks to E3, since that will probably make or break Nintendo to my eyes. So until then... enjoy your DSes and PCs, people! They are they only systems worth spending on for now, IMO. ¿K? out.

Nintendog ownage.

Talk about "too cute". I got Nintendogs on launch day and since then I haven't stopped playing. I don't have as much time as I would like to with my pup, but that's the scary part, everytime I come back from work I can't wait to open up my DS to pet that cute little thing. But that's not all... it got really scary the other night, when I opened my DS and I saw my lil pooch sleeping, and I just turned it off with a "nevermind, I'll let him sleep" inside my head. It's frickin' virtual dog, but I actually cared, lol. Seriously, behind the cute looks, there's a very sweet and clever peice of design and programming genius. I find it amazing and I really wish those dogs would actually grow up into mean things. Now I'm scared they'll do a Pikachu (or some other pokemon) version!

The day I gave up on Nintendo.

That was yesterday, actually. It's kind of weird how since the SNES vs. Genesis days, I've always "defended" the Nintendo systems I owned, because to my eyes and to my taste, it was the better machine for me... but yesterday, the Resident Evil 5 news was that one news bit that made me get sick of it all. 20 years of Nintendo-only gaming, now I think it's time to move on. I'm a gamer, I have my gaming wishes, and the way Nintendo is going, they're denying my the games I want to play. I'm sure the controller is going to r0x0r, but I really, really wanted RE5 (for example) and seeing how it's doing so good on their own system, I am sort of fed up about Nintendo questioning our intelligence all the time. No, a cool controller and a retro library won't match the killer games they're shying away from!!! Anyway, I don't want to overdo it, but I've really given up on the big N for the first time ever. I can't wait to play Twilight Princess, but that's probably going to be the last piece of Nintendo software I'll ever buy, since I'm a one-system guy and the Revolution isn't on my list anymore... which kindda suxx, really. But I really expect more and more people to switch, just like I'm doing... ¿K? out.

Gamespot's E3 DVDs

Woah. I got the DVD's yesterday and as soon as I got back from work, I started watching. The electric showdown rocks (though I sort of preferred the stupid pants operation, maybe because it had that "real first look" feel to it) and the other discs are just as good. There's so much content it's not even funny and well I just love this thing! It sorta made me re-live E3 all over again... got me to realise a few things, too... how E3 is INSANE and how it's sooooo boring lately (especially when you're a Nintendo follower hoping for something but only receiving nothing.) All in all, good stuff. Seriously, I ain't here to promote anything, but the fine folks at GameSpot Live did one heckle of a good job.
