No, it's not. Even games like Yakuza that are considered niche, sell quite a few hundred thousand and still making enough profit to continue making sequels of a high quality. There are plenty of franchises churning out sequels on or under a few hundred thousand sales. Two million is in no shape or form, niche.

The combat is great, but I hated the random loot. From Software games encourage and reward exploration, Nioh not so much.
The level design wasn't as good, and the enemy variety was severely lacking. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the game immensely and if they manage to fix those flaws, Nioh 2 is going to be fantastic.
