No. People are born that way. You can't choose to be a crack head, you're born one. It's not a choice or a lifestyle.

:| Not sure if serious...

The sarcasm is pretty obvious.

Yes. Completely, totally, one hundred and one percent correct that it is sarcastic. Now replace crack head with gay and it is not.

Is it possible to break your own neck, by twisting it will all your strength to one side, without using your hands? Im not suicidal or anything, just have a condition called OCD and these irrational thoughts pops up into my head. So my question is: If you sit in a chair and suspend your body and only using your head and twisting your neck/head to one side, as far as you can with all your strength, can you break your own neck? And I mean without using your hands or any tools. Just sitting in a chair and not turn your body, but only your head as far as you can?

All I'm saying is that there are still plenty of indians and we gave them reservations to live on.  And we literally GIVE them money.

Since the native americans showed no signs of technological advancement, nor any interest in technological advancement, they would've been overrun and intergrated sooner or later.  They were lucky we were the ones to do it.  Stop feeling so bad for them.

The annihilation of the Indians is a tragedy.  It could of been handled better.  I hope this doesn't repeat to any Americans in the future.

It was a tragedy.  But it was inevitable.  Worst things have happened before, so save your tears.

Nope. That's pretty much the worst thing that could happen. What's yours?

[QUOTE="Sajo7"][QUOTE="GOGOGOGURT"]Actually we were quite friendly to the native americans.  The spanish or french wouldn't have tried so hard to make an agreement.

They'd just massacre the whole lot of them, and any survivors would be put in slavery.  Look at what spaing did to mexico, we were the nice guys.

GOGOGOGURT

Soooo...what? Is your argument that the US was better because we killed and displaced them with style?

You do realize that you're agreeing with a dude that's basically said that parents have the right to have sex with their children if they wished right?

worlock77

Yes I do recall reading something about that now that I think about it.  It was more of what people do is thier own business.  But I don't remember him explicitly saying that "It's ok for parents to have sex with their kids."

What I DO remember however, is you guys putting words in his mouth.

No, he didn't explicitly say that it's ok for parents to have sex with their children. Instead he denied that any parent would (because we all know that sort of thing never, ever happens).

I thought someone would say that because he believes children have no rights. If that is the case then they don't own any property, like their bodies. So if another, like a parent takes the child's life then it is not a crime because the child doesn't have any rights.

[QUOTE="Abbeten"][QUOTE="OrkHammer007"]Patronizing and sarcastic tone aside... Yes, you should question their polls, not because I (or some other random individual on the internet) says so, but because they're easily rigged. It's a known fact. Google it.

Also, as I stated earlier (and was completely ignored in favor of insults and questions of my intellect), the numbers on the anti-gay marriage question in regards to Democrats are way too low in that poll. Simple demographic analysis and critical thinking should tell you that, but because the name "Gallup" is plastered across the top, and because it shows the Republican side deep in the negative (and thus, provides a nice confirmation bias for Republican bashers), neither of those was applied.

But, hey... keep on patting yourself on the back and believing that Gallup is infallable. Question nothing. You'll sleep better at night.

OrkHammer007

you do realize that major polling companies usually release their methodology, right

So?

I can claim to do all of my programming on an old 386 with a basic text editor, using an ancient gcc compiler. Are you going to simply take my word for it that that's how I code?

My friend's next door neighbor has a zoology degree, and claims to have seen Bigfoot. Since he has credentials, do I simply take his word for it that he did, indeed, see Sasquatch?

I can go on and on with examples... but the truth is, polls are inaccurate, and claiming that any poll is a true representative of a given population is fantasy. Furthermore, basing your opinions of a group of people based on those criteria is the worst form of bigotry.

Unless someone were willing to go door-to-door and ask each individual what their view on an issue is, you can't say with any degree of certainty what percentage actually agree/disagree with that issue... hell, people lie to screw around with these polls, so even that is completely suspect.

You can pretend that these polls actually mean something. I won't stop you. However, I won't pretend that they're anything than carefully crafted surveys designed to elicit the exact response the company/organization that comissioned the poll wants.

Good post. You can tell when the disagreeing side doesn't back up their side with anything more than, "lol it's science!"

More like. Keep calm, carry on. I can't. Freedom is not obedience.

so you don't want gay marriage legalized because that would be obedience and not true freedom or something this is the most tortured rationale for banning gay marriage i've ever heard

So you want everyone to have government marriage benefits to help with government taxes? Why not just remove the taxes? Oh right, I forgot. Who will build the roads?

[QUOTE="Abbeten"][QUOTE="LOXO7"][QUOTE="Abbeten"] if there are two scenarios, one in which the government bans gay marriage and one in which it allows it, clearly the one that affords more freedom is the latter.

But they're both wrong. It's not government's responsibility. No one should have to ask permission to marry. No one should get entitlements from marriage. When they do you get the scenario that we have now. Those who "can't" get legally married are envious of the ones who have entitlements. Remove or ignore these laws and we will reduce the effects of this deadly sin.
