[QUOTE="Abbeten"][QUOTE="OrkHammer007"]Patronizing and sarcastic tone aside... Yes, you should question their polls, not because I (or some other random individual on the internet) says so, but because they're easily rigged. It's a known fact. Google it.
Also, as I stated earlier (and was completely ignored in favor of insults and questions of my intellect), the numbers on the anti-gay marriage question in regards to Democrats are way too low in that poll. Simple demographic analysis and critical thinking should tell you that, but because the name "Gallup" is plastered across the top, and because it shows the Republican side deep in the negative (and thus, provides a nice confirmation bias for Republican bashers), neither of those was applied.
But, hey... keep on patting yourself on the back and believing that Gallup is infallable. Question nothing. You'll sleep better at night.

you do realize that major polling companies usually release their methodology, rightSo?I can claim to do all of my programming on an old 386 with a basic text editor, using an ancient gcc compiler. Are you going to simply take my word for it that that's how I code?
My friend's next door neighbor has a zoology degree, and claims to have seen Bigfoot. Since he has credentials, do I simply take his word for it that he did, indeed, see Sasquatch?
I can go on and on with examples... but the truth is, polls are inaccurate, and claiming that any poll is a true representative of a given population is fantasy. Furthermore, basing your opinions of a group of people based on those criteria is the worst form of bigotry.
Unless someone were willing to go door-to-door and ask each individual what their view on an issue is, you can't say with any degree of certainty what percentage actually agree/disagree with that issue... hell, people lie to screw around with these polls, so even that is completely suspect.
You can pretend that these polls actually mean something. I won't stop you. However, I won't pretend that they're anything than carefully crafted surveys designed to elicit the exact response the company/organization that comissioned the poll wants.
Good post. You can tell when the disagreeing side doesn't back up their side with anything more than, "lol it's science!"
