Yeah. SATA II is usually referred to as just SATA because SATA I was phased out so quickly.

Yeah, you probably can, but it'd be pretty stupid to do that, considering it comes with an SATA II drive and the original SATA drives are all but phased out.

All SATA II drives have a 3g/s throughput and they're the only ones supported by the PS3. You can only put notebook (2.5") drives in it.

Obviously go with the one which has the games that you think you'd enjoy most. I myself own a PS3, but the Xbox definitely has a a great catalogue that's not to be sneezed at.
