#8. Romeo x Juliet

An anime retelling of Shakespeare's legendary masterpiece, "Romeo and Juliet". What more do you want? I may only have watched 13 episodes of this so far, but it has been a very good 13 episodes.

Now, do I really have to tell you the story on this one? It is Romeo and Juliet after all. Well...actually, yes! This retelling is VERY different from the original story. THe only similarities are that it involved two people (Romeo and Juliet of course) who fall in love, but are from two families who hate eachother. The rest is completely new and original.

This retelling follows Juliet more closely, while, if I recall correctly, the original play followed Romeo more closely. It starts off with the killing of the Capulets, leaving only a few followers, and Juliet, alive. The muderer: Montague. Juliet must hide her identity, by dressing as a male, until she is 16 years old. When she reaches 16, she is expected tolead the revolution against the Montagues, who have taken over Neo Verona (the setting of the anime) after the slaying of the Capulets. But, of course, she meets Romeo along the way and things start to get worse from there.

One of the strongest parts of this anime is the characters. This show has a lot of deep, colorful characters. My favorite so far is Romeo. He is such a strong character (and I don't mean physically. I mean mentally). An interesting thing Iliked about the two main characters is that they are set up to me opposites. WHile Romeo is a noble who has a lot of strength and courage, Juliet is on the weaker and unstable side. It should be interesting to see how this show leads up to the inevitable ending. I highly recommend this to allanime or Shakespeare fans (unless you're a purist that is).

#9. Cowboy Bebop

If you like anime, chances are you like Cowboy Bebop. Heck, even people who can't stand anime like Cowboy Bebop! It's just that kind of show. I don't know what it is. Whether it's the jazzy music, the action sequences, the setting, or just the cool characters. There is so much to appreciate in Cowboy Bebop, and it is for that reason that so many people like it.

The story follows Spike Spiegel, a 27 year old bounty hunter. Along with Jet Black, the owner of their mother ship (the Bebop), they travel around space looking out for the next bounty. While doing this, they get mixed up with characters Faye Valentine, a sassy woman with a mysterious history, and Ed, a young computer hacker who, despite her name, is also a girl.

As the story develops, you learn more about each character's background. The ending (which i won't spoil) is very effective in my opinion. I find that it ties up all the loose ends and leaves you feeling good.

I highly suggest this to anyone willing to check it out. You can't go wrong.

#10. Strawberry Panic

Yeah, I know what some of you are thinking. "Seriously Moe? Yuri?" Well, yes. If you have an open mind, then you should be fine with this show. It's not hentai, so there's nothing dirty about it (though now I bet some are saying "Well, forget it then!")

Anyway, "Strawberry Panic" is an anime about three all-girl schools, "St. Miator's Girls' Academy", "St. Spica's Girls' Institute", and "St. Lulim's Girls' School".The story follows a girl named Nagisa, a girl who is new to the area. She becomes frightened on the first day of schoo when she gets lost in the woods near the school and finds herself face-to-face with an older, beautiful student. Nagisa feels attracted to this woman, which is obviously something new to her.

I enjoyed this show. It didn't wow me, but, then again, it's a Slice-of-Life romance, so I wasn't expecting something spectacular. If you like slice-of-life and/or romance anime, you should check it out. It's definitely worth the time. But if you don't like that stuff, or are turned off by the girl-girl relationships, stay clear.

Tune in next time for #9 on the list. It's something that I'm sure you will recognize!

Yu Yu Hakusho: The End of the Best Show

Well, after almost 6 years of watching it, me and my brother (talonmalon333) have finished Yu Yu Hakusho. I couldn't ask for a different ending to such a great show.

In my opinion, the ending of a show doens't have to be epic. Rather, it must have a feeling of closure. Whoever read my last blog knows that I was a little disappointed with the ending of Rozen Maiden, because it had an open ending. The ending of one of your favorite shows should leave you content. And I can't complain about Yu Yu Hakusho at all. Great ending to a great series.

I honestly think that YYH will be my favorite show forever. Along with it being a great show, I'm just far too attached to it. I may be sad to see it go, but there are other things to look out for. Since we're finished, me and my brother have made it a mission to track down anything about YYH that we can get our hands on, such as the manga, the movies, and the ellusive OVA videos. Also, for the first time ever, we are going watching the series from beginning to end (not in one sitting of course, lol).

So really, it would be pointless to say goodbye. Because this is just a new beginning.

Rozen Maiden

I just finished watching Rozen Maiden, including the 2 episode special "Ouvertüre". It has jumped to my number two spot in my favorite anime, which also includes Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note, and Cowboy Bebop.

The only problem is that I want some closure. The final episode had an open ending. By that I mean that it leaves the series open for a continuation. Many RM fans, such as myself, are hoping for a 3rd Season. But, then again, fans have been waiting for a 3rd Season quite some time. I just thought it was too good a show to not have a closure of some sorts. Cowboy Bebop's ending left you knowing that the story was closed. Everything that the series built up to was resolved. But with a show like RM, which you get seriously attached to, you also want some closure. I just think it's sad to think that we might not get that closure. Heck, I even heard that the manga's ending was bad because Peach Pit was rushed to put out the final volume.

We can't win, can we? Has Rozen Maiden been abandoned altogether?
