Contra NES - So much money spent in the arcades playing this. I remember being so happy when my cousin & I traded games & I got it for the NES from him. I think I traded my Game Genie for it.
Maniac Mansion NES - I rented this fine gem. It was the first point & click adventure game I ever played. Man that game is still so awesome!
Probably my most sentimental is FZERO for Super Nintendo...
I remember going to Walmart & going to the electronics section & seeing HUGE STACKS of the Super Nintendo bundle w/ Super Mario World for sale not long after the Super Nintendo was released. There was also a small tv setup there & the pure joy I felt playing it. As much as I had enjoyed my NES I KNEW I had to have a Super Nintendo.
The next year in October of '92 my dad had a stroke & thought I was gonna lose him that day. Thankfully he survived it but was in the hospital/rehab. He was the sole bread winner & that Christmas I wasn't sure if we were gonna have a Christmas. Amazingly due to the generosity of family, friends, & strangers it was one of the best Christmas' EVER.
My mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas & could be just one thing. Needless to say I said Super Nintendo!!! That holiday season I recall quite fondly going to Roses department store & getting it along w/ a game. They were sold out of Super Mario World so I opted for FZERO. I had to wait until Christmas to open it but boy was it worth it. I had so much fun skipping over tracks.
Part of what makes this my most sentimental is that my dad was tragically killed in a work related accident in November of last year. I was so depressed & ended up missing @ least a couple of weeks off work. Video games is what helped me to deal w/ my dad having the stroke in '92 & here almost 20 years later again is helping me to get through these difficult times in losing him.
Unfortunately due to me missing so much work I had to sell my PS3 & return the HDTV I had just bought. Wasn't able to play much of any games until I bought a used PSP for $20 on craigslist last week.
He never really played video games but I am ever so thankful that he & my mom got me that NES for Christmas in the late 80's.
