Ideas For The Next Soul Calibur

I'll just jump straight into it.

  • Bring Team Battle back
  • Bring Weapon Master back as well. But instead of a point and select adventure, why not try an actualadventure? Much like MK Deception did with its Konquest mode. (With Siegfried as the protagonist, of course)
  • Here's the big one: have the choice of which movesets you want for your character. You know, at the character selection screen, you choose your person, but after chosing the person, have a menu to select the move sets from either SC 1, 2, 3 and 4. So many times I've heard people wish that they could use the move sets from SC 1.
  • The ability to create your very own fighting style for your character, and maybe add in an XP system, where certain moves cost you a certain amount of XP, e.g. Have someone with their primary style with the Great Sword from SC 3, but you could add some of Siegfried's or Nightamare's moves.
  • On the note of character creation, actually give us the ability to adjust certain things like hair length, eyebrows etc. All those people who want the perfect Sephiroth in their Soul Calibur matches really cry out for this.
  • Bring back the substance! SC 4's story mode was a total letdown. Bring back Tales Of Souls from SC 3. I found that to be a good way to portray SC's story for each character.
  • Take out the gimmicky characters that don't belong in the world of Soul Calibur. It's happened twice in the SC franchise, but the only character I thought that could fit in was Link, because his time period is closest to that of SC (I would assume.)
  • Have Tag Team matches in online matchmaking. 2 vs 2, but one at a time. When one person is knocked out, his partner gets a go in the next round.
  • Along with Tag Team, why not a Tournament mode? Have a room fill up to say, 8 - 16 players, and then have a tournament go from there. Sure, it may be a little time consuming, but I find tournaments to be fun, and you'll get to watch your opponents beforehand and firgure out their strategies.
  • I would have a total fangasm if this happened - Bring back all of the nostalgic arenas and stage music from Soul Blade, all re-made and remixed to the highest quality. I swear I would hug every single Namco employee if they did this. (A nerd can hope. :) )
  • Bring back nostalgic characters as well - Ling Long, Hwang, Soul Edge, Inferno, Edge Master.
  • Have a replay save option. You know, after a match, have it ask if you want to save it so you can watch it again later.
  • Edge Master Mode - meaning the tutorial mode that SC 3 had. It would seriously help out the new guys to SC, much like how it did before. I don't know why they took it out.
  • A larger selection of weapons and effect would be nice. Not just the typical *Increased strength but low defence* and *Health absorption*.
  • Have a better variety of clothing. We all know that SC is set in the 16th century (or something like that) but it's not like it's trying to be authentic to that time period. Put it some more whacky or unusual outfits and maybe some badass ones that you would find in a Final Fantasy game.
  • PLEASE - Bring back sword struggles from way-back-when in Soul Blade. I loved those. Also, why not have the jumping ground attacks and the critical combos, instead of those stupid critical finishes. I mean really, I NEVER use them in an actual match, because they usually end while the soul gauge is still green.
  • Going back to character creation - have an option to be a Lizard Man, or those random 'entities' that have those weird snarling, banshee-type voices. (AKA Inferno noises. xD)

So yeah, this is just my little growing list of ideas for the next Soul Calibur, which I'll edit every time I have a random epiphany.

I've been a huge fan of the franchise even before I could read properly, (No joke, I was born in 1994, Soul Blade came out in 1997. :) ) and I've noticed that it's always trying out new things in each installment, but isn't executing them as well as they could.

The best in the series is easily 2, because all of the modes you'd expect in a Namco fighter, are there. If SC 2 were to come onto the XBLA and have online matchmaking, I'd sell SC 4 in a heartbeat and download it.

This 'overrated' nonsense needs to stop/VMA's - Kanye West and Taylor Swift

To start off, I'm not exactly loving the over saturation of "(Insert game name here) Overrated?" threads.

Please, if you're reading this and have made a post like that, stop from doing so in the future. They serve no purpose. Every 'overrated' thread I see only include:

  1. A person who hates (insert game name here) and does nothing but bash it with no evidence/good reason behind such statements.
  2. Those who love the game and tell the TC that he/she is wrong.
  3. The people who are 'iffy', and only say that the game is overrated because it's not exactly on their list of 'awesome' games.
  4. The inevitable lock and/or complete wipe of the thread.

I've honestly seen a person say: "I personally don't like it much, it's not that bad, so yeah kinda overrated."

:|

Seriously? That doesn't make sense at all. 'Overrated' is nothing more than your own personal opinion. Just because you don't like a game, doesn't mean that it's automatically 'overrated', and that it's an 'average' game that doesn't deserve to be in the AAA list.

-----------------------------

Anyway, now what I really wanna talk about - The VMA's. Particularly Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

Now, I didn't actually watch the VMA's. It was a Sunday night, and that's when I usually brush up on those extended essays I get weekly. -_-

But from what I've been told by my friends and what I've seen on reports, is that Taylor Swift won 'Best Female artist video' award. (Or something along those lines). And as she goes up on stage and receives her award, and begins her acceptance speech, Kanye West just waltzes on to the stage, rips the microphone out of her hands and says:

"I'm happy for you, Imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the greatest music videos OF ALL TIME."

...And then he just leaves the stage.

At this point, I was just suprised, shocked, befuddled, all of the above. And aparently, AFTER the little episode, Beyonce did in fact end up getting the award (at least, that's what my friends tell me).

...This is just straight up wrong! If someone receives their very first award, let them have their moment! You may have ruined what was possibly the proudest moment of her life. Taylor Swift, a 19 year old up-and-coming music star (who already has quite a large following) was comepletely SHUT DOWN by Kanye West, a 32 year old man, AND one of the best rappers in hip-hop. I could only imagine how embarassing that was for her. An innocent 19-year-old girl that got shut down by one of the greatest rappers of this generation.

Now, what really bothers me is that some people are saying that it's Taylor's fault for giving Kanye the chance to do what he did.

:|

Come on, seriously guys? How, in any way, shape or form is it Taylor's fault? And it's not like she could fight over the mic! They're celebrities! It's little, childish things like that which will get tabloid coverage and people will look at you in the wrong way. Not to mention, she couldn't even win in a struggle over a mic with him. (My own assumption, I don't know how strong Taylor is  )

It's also been said that Kanye may have been intoxicated (drinking Henessy all night) and that it was nothing more than him being a typical drunk bastard. But of course, this is a lot worse on Kanye's part, because people thought that he was a cocky, self-absorbed douchebag before, but now he just put the icing on the cake.

I mean, hell. When the President of the United States calls you a jackass, you are a jackass.

What's my own personal opinion in this? Easy.

Kanye, grow up. You've lost your mother. You've lost your wife. We felt sorry for you. But we can't feel sorry for you forever. That honestly was just out of the line.

Playstation vs Xbox - Classic games are Sony's forte...

Time for some history and a math lesson ladies and gentlemen.

The Sony Playstation - a revolutionary 32 bit console which was released during the holiday season of 1994. (As a bonus fact, I was only 8 months old at the time. )

Microsoft Xbox - Released on November 15, 2001 in North America. Later released in Japan on February 22, 2002, then released in Australia and Europe in the month of March, 2002.

That was a bit of history - now here's the math lesson.

2009 - 1994 = 15

2009 - 2001 = 8

Putting it simply, The Playsation has been around for 15 years, while the Xbox has for only 8.

Well, why am I bringing this up?

It seems to me that the common gamer who owns a PS3/Xbox 360 (meaning the younger crowd, people from probably my age to about age 21 or so) have completely forgotten the fact that there actually werePlaystations before the PS3. So many times I see people saying:

"Well, the PS3 has better exclusives, it has ALL OF THE FANTASIES, Tekken, MGS 4, God Of War 3 and a bunch of other stuff. The 360 has little amount compared to the PS3 that are up to par."

Why would anyone do this? Why would anyone even think about making a comparison like that? The Playstation has been around for a good 7 years before the Xbox. With that said, it all simply comes down to the fact that the Playstation came first. It isn't exactly fair to judge the Xbox when it so much younger. And people also forget that without the PS1, there wouldn't be any of their precious exclusives, let alone a PS3!

The timing of the Playstations release was actually, a very, very good time to do so. In my opinion, the 90s had to be the most creative era when it came to video games. Everything was improving rapidly (technologically), and game developers decided to push themselves even harder, because the boundaries were virtually limitless at the time as they saw it. And with it, came the legendary long-running franchises such as MGS, Final Fantasy, Tekken and so on.

I know that there were releases of FF and MGS games before the Playstation, but it's a pretty safe bet to say that those franchises really grew into the giants they are today because of it.

To both shorten this blog a little bit, and to put it simply, the 360 cannot have an arsenal of classics to compete with the PS3, because Xbox did not exist during the 90s.

I could seriously drag on this on forever, but it's getting kinda late. So I'll leave it at this.

I got suspended from Gamespot! (Yay.)

Why? Oh, no reason. Just flaming.

Yeah, I was in the system wars board (yeah, I was there xD), and my God, I have never seen so many ignorant, close minded posts ever since I even started to use the internet. (Yeah, it's even worse than YouTube, just without all of the profanity).

So yeah, I was reading a topic about the comparison between the PSN and XBL...Yeah, that. Fanboys (needless to say) went crazy. For whatever reason, I decided to jump in, but of course, due to my 'superiority', (a.k.a. INTELLIGENCE) people decide to viciously flame me.

So, eventually I just said screw it, and told everyone exactly for who they were. (trolls, fanboys, yadayadayada) But I also insulted them. I knew exactly what I was doing though, but in hindsight, really wasn't worth it, because the trolls always win, right?

So yeah, I was suspended for 17 freakin' days. 10 days for my insulting post, and 7 days for justifying the XBL being better than the PSN. (Yeah, no kidding). I don't know why, but since I came across as 'condescending', got added punishment for that as well.

But yeah, I'm back. Happy faces and what not.

Systems Wars Board = total waste of time and effort.

Halo DLC - Nothing but a scam?

So yeah, here is one little segemt nof this 'debate' that was going onin the Xbox 360 forum.

I would not consider that a lot of money. Also its not like you cant play the game, you just are limited to a few more playlists.

Me:

You're failing to see the point being made here.

With the money spent on the game, being limited to play only a few playlists is ridiculous. If you purchase something that has content that are you at first able to play, being restricted from playing such playlist because you don't pay for something that IS NOT mandatory, is just not right. It's basically stripping your gaming rights because you decide not to pay for a few maps.

It's like taking Call Of Duty 4,and not being able to play Free For All online because you didn't download the bonus maps. I'll say it again. bceause you didn't download the BONUS maps. Meaning that you DON'T have to pay for them. Why can't Halo be like that? The answer is simple.

Halo literally has MILLIONS of followers, worshipers, cults etc. What they're doing, is taking advantage of that. Bungie and M$ KNOW that Halo fans will be willing to pay extra for something that ISN'T needed, if they can't play. That's all it is. Nothing, in any way, shape or form, is that reasonable.

----------------------

Now, with that said, I would like to know what anyone else feels on this subject (If anyone reads this, lol) because this is something that has gotten on my nerves for a very long time, and is in fact the reason why I stopped playing Halo alltogether. I don't know where falconclan stands in this exactly, but from what I've read, he's just another Halo fanboy.

Dissidia

Can someone please give me an explaintion for FF Dissidia being only for the PSP? T_T

What's Classic, and What's Not?

Well, this has really been on my mind lately, and since blogs are supposed to be what's on your mind, I guess I'll put it here as well as the forums. :] Well, where do I start. I keep seeing statements which support the idea of games like Call Of Duty 4, Halo 3, Gears Of War, Street Fighter 4 and Soul Calibur 4 being 'classic'. There are a lot more games on the list, but I'll only name a few. Now here's where you guys should really just hush, because you have no idea what you're talking about. The games that we all DO consider classic: Castlevania: SOTN Legend Of Mana Soul Blade/Edge Tekken 3 Goldeneye 007 Perfect Dark Street Fighter 2 (yes, all of the limitless versions) Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Once again, I will only name a few. Now, why are these games classic? Because they were REVOLUTIONARY, not EVOLUTIONARY. Let me explain for those who don't understand what I mean. Here, I'll explain using Pokemon. Now, if a Pikachu were to evolve into a Raichu, that is an evolution, thus making it evolutionary. Sure, Raichu may look different, may have a few improvements over Pikachu, but initially, he's the same thing; a mouse with electrical powers. Now, if you were to take the Pikachu and magically turn him into an Onix, that's a revolution. It was taken from one thing, and was turned into something completely different. Now with that said, the only game of today's library that I think will go classic, is Gears Of War. Why? Because there's nothing else like it. It was a revolutionary step in 3rd-person shooting. On the other hand, CoD 4, and Halo, they won't be classics, because they didn't revolutionise FPS games. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark took care of that. Halo and CoD are today's Goldeneye and Perfect Dark (metaphorically speaking, of course). To be a calssic, you need to be something different, to be able to blow people's minds away the first time you put in the game, and it needs to have you playing over, and over and over again. Like in the Castlevania series, shortly before SOTN, Castlevania was like Mario, only with a twist. Multiple twists actually. You had a time limit, and had to go through each level before the time was up. Basically the same deal. But, when SOTN was released, the use of a map screen, and having an RPG-styled start up and equipment menu, completely changed the way people looked at Castlevania. Not only that, but it was a ridiculously awesome game. Legend Of Mana, oh wow. I don't know even where to begin, just play the game yourself and you'll see why. Tekken 3 and Soul Blade. Once again, these games revolutionised the fighting genre. With their unique gameplay, speed and impressive 3D graphics for their time, along with kickass music, made these instant classics. To this day, I still find the majority of Tekken lovers playing Tekken 3 over the newer ones, including myself. As for Soul Blade, it became a classic because of it's use of weaponry in fighting, along with an in-depth story and character icons that got a lot of people hooked. And finally, Street Fighter. I know that Street Fighter out of all of these games is a touchy subject, so I'll try not to hurt any feelings. Street Fighter 2 is classic, simply because it was the first fighting game to hit the market that blew up at an alarming rate, and combined the use of inputs from the D-pad and any other button. Street Fighter 3: 3rd strike. All I have to say is one word: Parrying. Not only was the game equally balanced, had new characters and great visuals, but it also had parrying. Parrying made Street Fighter junkies approached SF in a totally new way when the parry system was introduced. Sure, it was evolutionary, but also revolutionary; Street Fighter would never be the same afterwards. But then, SF 4 came in. Sure, it's great eye candy, but it's basically Street Fighter 2 with 10 new characters and a Focus Attack. Also, the fact that today's gamers only play to win, the FUN has been completely taken away from Street Fighter. Do you know what I get whenever I turn on my X-Box and put in SF 4? All I get are crossovers and guys who sit in the corner all day long, and don't attack until you have the balls to make the first move. That, is not fun. Did I forget to mention the fact that SF 3 is also far more challenging than SF 4? I play SF 4 on it's hardest difficulty setting, and I have a harder time playing SF 3 on 4 stars. Don't forget, you don't have to agree with what I'm saying, but I've noticed how classics are made, and WHY they're classics. Tell me if you agree. Tell me why, or why not.

Hello.

I'm not a blogger. xD Maybe I will be, but now, no. So uhh...sorry if you wanted to see words? :S
