The Fake Steve Jobs Blog

I just discovered this last week. The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs One of the most interesting and fun to read tech blogs I've seen in a long time. No, it's not really Steve Jobs but someone doing a parady of him as a way of sharing some real observations about the tech industry. This is one of the first sites in years I find myself going to more than once a day. Besides our own sites, of course.

Eating Apples

Yesterday we gave both Tyler and Jillian each an apple to eat. Jillian (two years old) ate her entire apple. The whole thing; core and all. There was absolutely nothing left to the apple at all by the time she was done with it.

Cool Card Game

I've never been interested in any of those card role playing games. But, combine that with a PS3 and a camera peripheral and you've got something that looks pretty awesome. Check out The Eye of Judgment and some of the gameplay movies. Kinda like the 3D chess game that Chewbacca and R2D2 play in Star Wars. But cooler somehow.

AJAX Example : With Fades!

Being an "old school" web developer I have to admit I'm not as up-to-date on all the AJAX and Javascript craziness going on in the world today as I should be. I set out to remedy that a bit today by learning how to use Moo Tools to do a simple AJAX call and throw in a cool effect for looks. The result of my two hours of experimentation is my AJAX Example : With Fades! page. To some of the other people I work with at CNET this is child's play but to me this represents an important leap in my continuing and never-ending education. Besides, when it comes to technology, you don't really know something until you can actually do it yourself.

Snakes and Arrows

I just found out Rush have a new album coming out soon and that the leadoff single -- Far Cry -- is already on iTunes. Judging from the single, this is the best sounding Rush album since Counterparts. Test for Echo had some great songs but sounded kind of mushy from a production standpoint and the problems with Vapor Trails have been well documented. It's good to hear a re-mastered version is forthcoming. I'll be first in line for that one. Anyway, the single from Snakes and Arrows sounds light-years better than anything from Vapor Trails. I'm anxiously looking forward to hearing the whole thing May 1st.

Jillian's Second Birthday

Here's 90 pictures from Jillian's 2nd birthday party. That may seem like a lot but we took a total of 145 pictures that day so I've actually spared you from 55 bad ones. The best one of the bunch has to be this one of a sad birthday girl in a bag. I mean, how can you be sad wearing a birthday hat while standing inside a giant bag? That just shouldn't be.

Complete My Album

I noticed a couple of interesting things on iTunes this morning. Here's a screenshot.

Itunes

First, the regular price of this album -- a new release -- is $7.99. Not because there's fewer than 10 songs. It has 14 songs. Nice. After buying the single Ruby I noticed the "Complete My Album for $7.00" link pop up. Even nicer.
