EvE of New Eden On-line

About the same time I started trying EQII I have been playing EvE-Online a Sci-Fi space merchant simulation game from CCP which has become my favorite game with it's rock solid game kernel for lack of a better description and wild graphics it has become something that I will subscribe to for several years most likely.

There are several bugs in their system which will prob take at least a year or more to finally get rid of, but after several years of constant updates already and a recent hardware upgrade to their servers this will surely not be a long term issue for the period I plan to subscribe.

In-game the world is ever changing with the players generating the economy and putting into practice the chaos theory on a grand scale with a few mathematical known constants and 15000 variables it is a financial dream for CCP and spectical for university students (low fees).

Buddy programs allow new users to try the game for a month uninterrupted and get a head start in the ruthless mercenary for hire, economically driven "New Eden" world.

Anyway this is starting to sound like a review which is better suited to the actual games individually now with the GameSpot interface upgrade which I am beginning to like -most- of the features and certainly some more stability to other areas too.

Cheers,

Andrew

Industrial Disappointment

Graphics are one of the qualities of a game that I enjoy immensely, more 3D and special FX in the right places really makes me enjoy my entertainment time.

This is one thing that I wish game developers should take into account; not everyone, in-fact most of the buying public, don't have money falling from a money tree and even when they do, they would be wise to invest it further then spend the profit on too much entertainment or game systems (even tho I still like to over-splurge myself).

Since this concept is close to the several million-billion people in the world that play games - and own computers, one would wonder why they make games with such high level languages that are based on requiring more and more power.

There should be a review of the standard level which people actually play games for a industry "level of settings" for quality that should be lived up to by developers.  We would all like to have P5s with quad 64-bit cores and SMP built into every game, it doesn't happen for most people in this large group.

Example the "High" setting in games should be retrospective to computer quality rather then game quality and thus allow for "Very, Extreme, and Super" quality levels for the actual power hungry gamer that does have the P5.

Well I'm sure there are some divisional mind sets regarding this theory but at least if people talked about it with industry official bodies then there would eventually be; possibly; several sets of standards to help both game developers and the general public beyond the censorship level.

Bye for now,

Andrew

Migrate South for the Winter

I'm all EQII'd out, bought the game tried the full version in so many different situations;  the load time SUX, you have to wait like 10 minutes for each level to load and that is on a P4 2GHz with 1GB RAM (have tried on 5 different platforms since to see if it was just in need of more power).  This is one of those games where the demo is great but the full version has not been well design balanced.

Is the first game where I have wanted to return it in the slightest amount, but I settled for just canceling my subscription.  I am however in the mind that with a LOT more power this game became more efficient so will have to wait until 2010 before I bother trying it again with a nice kick butt computer.

That said the graphics are good the general game-play was long winded and after 3 months of playing the full version with 6 decent characters I did at least like the concepts behind it.

Asheron's Call 2 - Fallen Kings is still one of my favorites and the game-play is constant and vibrant with community spirit not found elsewhere yet.  The new expansion and several additions to the general game quality have put it back into perspective as one of the MMOs that I enjoy.

As for the other MMOs I have collected recently; will make another blog for them.

Cheers,

Andrew

Reconciliation

Well I have been playing Everquest II for about a month now and I have only strengthend my view, it is the best game that I have come across yet. With constant updates and a huge crowd of people surrounding you 99% of the time I think it is the way of the future as far as post work communication during the week.

For anyone that wants to try out an MMO game this or WoW would be the best selection but my flavour would have to be Everquest II even with Guild Wars being free this game kicks butt.

Asheron's Call 2 - Fallen Kings has also been reconciled in my mind as there is still a very strong following and supportive guild structure that I have not come across b4. Kitty Kat has cirtainly shown me the ropes and I am glad to finally be part of an online community that cares.

Cheers,

Andrew

Change of Heart

I bought a few games recently, Asheron's Call 2 - Fallen Kings doesn't seem too bad but for the disjunctive nature of the gameplay, monster focus, and not feeling like I had enough of a sense of direction I am glad I got a 75% discount. However at last I have trialed the EverQuest II Series and based on the low subsciption price am very impressed which lately it is hard to get me excited about a game.

EverQuest II is an outstanding game with a great community I recommend it over World of WarCraft which I was leaning towards prior to testing the trial for EverQuest II which I have purchased instead.

Cheers.

P.S. I'll probably still get the other one anyway though since I have so many Blizzard games in the first place.

Stars in the Sky

Well I finally bagged a copy of Startopia on eBay and will hopefully be playing the full version shortly. I have been playing Elder Scrolls to a large degree lately since I can't afford World of Warcraft yet, it is the largest most massive game I have come across and am having trouble get my character past the "first stage" and then the flexability of the game is immense.

I wonder how WoW will compare in flexibility, even on the programability side of things with C vs XML on the extended module adaption for both games.

Toodles

Christmas Catch

Have bought several new games over the last few days and will be trying them out over the Christmas break but I still want a copy of World of Warcraft before someone takes all the character names.

Best value copy I have found was $121.60 AUD which is about $30.00 cheaper then everywhere else (Game + Recharge Card)

Will keep looking until I think it's affordable.

Infernal Machine

This website is really really well built, even with lagging and disconnections the active content still finds it's way into the database and the website really reacts well to your actions and affiliations. Great work GameSpot.

My First Entry

Welcome to my journal, I shall endeavor to leave comments about the games I own and have played for others to read about here when I find them noteworthy or just when I get the time. Happy Gaming!
