@Sakuban @MoronGotMyName Family-friendly is the best way to describe it, that's a specific genre and it's almost universally shit.

@Sakuban @MoronGotMyName I wouldn't label any of them "politically correct", I feel I use that term broadly enough already.

@innominatus2 @MoronGotMyName I accept everyone's right to support the philosophy behind it, but I was royally pissed off that the game kept pushing it and providing me poor to none counter-arguments, it got very unsatisfying. And it eventually got way too preachy and one sided, which I think happened because of the controversial suicide options at the end - they had to really justify it and got a bit carried away.

@Stiler Gamespot only covers the heavy hitters or possibly a known franchise. I don't think they have mentioned the KS for Divinity - Original Sin either, which looks really good. As for Camelot Unchained, the less MMO coverage the better :)

I really hate their old point and click adventures as well, they were all supposed to be funny but they had that horrible family-friendly comedy that was aimed at slowpokes and not supposed to offend anyone. I played through the monkey island games, sam and max, day of the tentacle etc. - don't think I laughed once. Not exactly "curb your enthusiasm" quality, more like the kind of jokes you might find on family sitcoms.

I remember trying to watch the original Star Wars when i was 13 - I found it too childish already then. I am always amused when Star Wars fans complain about the newer movies, they were always children flicks - it just got too obvious for them. They want the movies to be juvenile but not so "in your face" about it, because that makes them feel a bit lame.

The games were always better than the movies so I am a bit divided on this. Ultimately, I can't really feel sorry for franchises that desperately enforce the teen rating, it's too stifling. If a Star Wars game has ever been rated higher I'll retract my comment but I doubt it has happened :)

@innominatus2 @MoronGotMyName OK, I'll respond to your points :)

a) If I remember correctly his soul was just his mortality, I don't accept the premise that losing your mortality is bad and causes torment. It would certainly not be some eternal curse upon him but something he would have learned to live with. The whole idea that losing your mortality is bad is part of the game's silliness - clearly perpetuated by people who want to think this makes sense.

b) Should certainly be fixable in a setting that exotic. And even if not, there are people looking worse than that even in our world.

c) This would ultimately be eternal hell yes, but that was obviously long off and killing yourself to avoid it would have to be last resort. My character died over and over without turning into a vegetable, he could obviously last many lifetimes yet and had plenty of time to look for solutions. Hell, with the gift and resources he had he could just become a Lich if nothing else worked - it would certainly beat death.

d) This is the only reason I somewhat accepted him trying to figure out what the hell was going on instead of focusing on more constructive solutions, but the shadows were mostly cannon fodder and I remember sleeping in complete safety from them many places so they weren't too much of a hassle. And of course, thanks to the AWESOME gift of immortality I would just return to life if they killed me - instead of being a pathetic mortal.

e) A lot of his incarnations were strong, now he had just given up and become some silly crybaby "why oh why am I immortal?", like that's still not the best gift ever. Life is everything, death is the negation of everything - if he ultimately was too weak to handle the power it just represents the human delusion that death is ok (people love to seek comfort in lies like that).

The problem was that the game had included a suicide option with the final boss so they felt they REALLY had to push that angle in the game for it to make sense, it got very tiresome and silly. Huge minus that you never got to ridicule the flawed logic behind the suicide agenda as well, they were obviously extremely proud of it and didn't consider the inherent logical fallacy at all. Normally I would applaud any game pushing something as controversial as suicide but when it expects me to relate to the logic behind it and conveys it so poorly I have to shake my head. Games in general have difficulties appealing to my mindset, of course - that doesn't mean I let them off the hook.

@MAD_AI @MoronGotMyName Those senile peasants would just dismiss it as trolling before returning to competing for cred points by praising old games :)
