The market is changing. Steam is trying to adapt. People are not buying computers like they use to. Consoles, tablets, smartphones and other low powered devices are taking over. Even Microsoft realizes this with the shift to their surface line.

Finally another intelligent post in this thread. That's exactly correct. Valve is adapting to the shift in the markets. People can't afford to buy gaming PCs when the economy is this bad, and next-gen systems start at $400. Those people who cant afford gaming PC's in such an economy, will not buy a next-gen console as well. They have other things on their mind. Also most people who bought pc's in the past, did so, solely for internet, world, excell and more simple tasks. Those were not pc gamers from the get go.

Well that's a tricky question. Maybe ask yourself, why shouldn't a developer get full credit for their hard work at launch? Â
The last game I bought (and at full price) was Max Payne 3 for 60 euros. Before that I will have to go back several years. I guess F.E.A.R. in 2005 for 55 euros. All the rest in between I purchased ultra-cheap. I might pay the full amount for Divinity Original Sin. Hell are there actually that many good games coming out worthy of being priced 50 euro?
Path of Exile and Divinity Original Sin will come out the end of this year. Those 2 games alone put all RPG's to shame from last year. Really last year was a shitty year (except for Legend of Grimrock). The only decent AAA game coming out in 2012 was Max Payne 3. All the rest was catered for the consoles and hence shit.
